Thread: No change in cholesterol w/veggie - Cholesterol Management: Michael F. Richman, MD, FACS at WebMD

Started 2 months ago by Hypocardiac
Hello - I was wondering if anyone has tried a veggie diet and had NO CHANGE in cholesterol numbers. Had a heart attack 8 weeks ago. Was on a low-fat diet since first stenting in 2000. I had occasional cheating, but ate mostly chicken and fish, along with veggies. Alcohol consumption was beer, wine and liquor. Post heart attack in 2009, I am now eating all veggie/tofu based diet, with no ...

Replying to: No change in cholesterol w/veggie you got it exactly... the body produces what you need and just produces more or less depending on what you need....the fact is you need what your levels are and lowering them by any means is counter productive...better to lower your bodies need.... good info can be found here: http://www.cholesterol-and-health.com/cholesterol- and-health....

Replying to: No change in cholesterol w/veggie Thank you. I forgot to mention my son lifts weights and eats about 3 eggs every day. His total cholesterol is 185. My wife got me a book called "The Great Cholesterol Con". I just started reading it, and it asks good questions like "Why do people with normal cholesterol get heart attacks?" I've wondered myself, because on my wifes side of...

Replying to: No change in cholesterol w/veggie Hypocardiac, You hit the nail on the head! Your last sentence "If all the the statin drugs and lower cholesterol levels was the cure, wouldn't we see heart disease rates going down?" Actually, in the USA death rates from Heart attacks peaked in 1968, and have steadily declined since. However your point becomes valid in that aggressive ...

Replying to: No change in cholesterol w/veggie Here ya go Hypocardiac. This is just one graph showing coronary heart disease death rates. This CDC graph zooms in on 1980 to 2000. Statins were introduced in the late 80's ( about the middle of the graph line ) Skyrocketing sales of statins do nothing to enhance the decline rate any further. Instead the graph continues on its established ...

Replying to: No change in cholesterol w/veggie I was initially on Lipitor, but switched to Vytorin. On Lipitor my exercise seemed difficult, and hard to maintain strength. Some pain in my arms. I don't think I have any side effects on Vytorin. My sister was on it before me, and she had no side effects either. I exercise wiithout a problem, no aches or pains anywhere. DMW...

Replying to: No change in cholesterol w/veggie Sounds like you're doing everything you can without getting the results you want, must be frustrating. You may be in a position where you may need some medical initervention to reach your goals. I understand your concern, been there done that. I was in your position and opted for statin therapy and have been very happy with the results. I have...

Replying to: No change in cholesterol w/veggie Just one more thought concerning Chelation therapy; Chelation Therapy AHA Recommendation The American Heart Association has reviewed the available literature on using chelation (ke-LA'shun) (E.D.T.A., ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid) to treat arteriosclerotic (ar-te"re-o-skleh-ROT'ik) heart disease. We found no scientific evidence to ...
