When the 2010 TL comes out, I am considering purchasing a certified pre-owned 06 TL and I have some questions.
- Are these cars pretty cheap to fix and maintain? My current 02 Grand Am is. I am not doubting the reliability because it's a Honda product.
- The 3.2 engine doesn't require synthetic oil does it? That means I can go anywhere like Jiffy Lube for cheap oil changes?
- I ...
I think the 04-06 TLs are afflicted with the same transmission problems that the Odysseys and Accords were having. Otherwise, bulletproof.
You can use regular dino oil. I don't know about using Jiffy Lube - I've heard some horror stories about their service.
You can reset the maintenance minder on your own.
Not sure about the color choices, but if you constantly maintain your seats, then...

Unless you want to wait until one of these breaks on you and puts you in a real pickle. Were you unaware that these things wear out...no matter what make of car it is?

Not necessarily. You have to understand that these are the only real maintenance items required. Average the cost out over 100K miles and that really isn't a bad deal.
Just don't ever gamble on a timing belt or ...
Ohhh, so what you're saying is at 100k miles, get the timing belt, water pump, plugs, etc?
And General, please elaborate on what you mean by, 'these things were out' ?
I'm an owner of a 05TL and would like NOT to be surprised by these things. To clarify, at 100k miles, I have to replace these items even though they still work. Correct? How much will this cost me?

I'm just trying to get an estimate as to the price of these items. I know labor is what's going to cost a chunk of change too.
Spark plugs are cheap, but as for the belts and pumps, what's a generous estimate for these parts? Is it safe to say that all this will cost me less than 1000 dollars?

I'm sorry, but the risk of a $3500-4000 engine repair vs. a $800 timing belt replacement is a no brainer. This is why the 105K mile interval is suggested and that is what I will follow. The glass transmission issue is with models from 2000-2003. After that, Honda finally figured out how to make an automatic transmission. However, they still need regular service just like the engine. Drain and fill at regular intervals as suggested by the...

I would like to add my 2 cents to 100k so called preventative maintenance thing.. Just as its titled, its a preventative thing.. and out of listed things such as sparks, water pump, belts, etc.. Only one I would be concerned would be timing belt (TB). If your TB breaks, it will cost you pretty penny. But the thing is that modern belts are made so much better than before. Also you would have to consider 100k city driven car vs. 100k highway...
