Thread: New (to me) Sig P225 Heel Mag Release

Started 1 month, 1 week ago by xavagus
I recently purchased a used P225 Swiss Police trade-in from Turner's Outdoorsman in San Diego. Slide wear is just at the point that some of the anodizing can be seen through. The gun was fairly filthy but was the best in the bunch. All serial numbers match on the slide, barrel and frame. The slide says Montage Suisse and has marks (a shield, and 'bp') on a couple of places. I plan to shoot ...

i have read [and do not know from experience] in ayoob's sig book that the higher pressure +p rounds are not a good idea in the p225 as defensive rounds; that the slide cycles too fast and dependability is compromised.

I just picked up mine yesterday. It has the old black sights (no bar-dot). The slide's finish is quite worn on the front. I picked this one over a later model with night sights because the front strap of the gun and the muzzle end of the slide was in much better condition. I figure I can change the sights on the cheap but can't fix the front strap unless I send it in to be re-finished. The ...

bsg1, thanks for the tip on the Sig book. I read the chapter on the 225 online and saw the reference you made. Thanks, -Kirk

sigfan91, Please do post some images. I'm interested to see your 225 and its serial number sequence as well. Does anyone know how to figure out when a P225 was manufactured? -Kirk

I think the serial number is very close to yours. My P6 was stamped 4/79 and has a slightly lower serial number. I figure my P225 should be from around 1979 as well. The grip panels are stamped "79" on one and "80" on the other. Interestingly, my 4/79 P6 has grip panels stamped 2003.

sigfan91, Where are these date stamps located? Are they only on P6 models? -Kirk

I've got a consecutive set of 1978 P6's with different markings than my 2 79 P6's. I don't know why they are different, but perhaps 78 was when they made the first P6's ? Great bloody guns, all four of em.....but those markings on my 78's are definately different ......Good luck with your "Montage Suisse" 225!....Love the early markings on these....Good luck at the range!...Cheers The Mouse

The 1979 does not have date code that normally appears on the dust cover below the muzzle. The 1998 does have it.

One other thing I noticed about my P225...the sights, both front and back, appear to have been off set to the left for some reason. There's even a notch stamped onto the front sight base and slide to line them up. I'm thinking about switching out these old sights with new contrast sights. I wonder if I have to off set the new sights.

YES... Have four P6s with about 10 mags... ALL fit and work with the MS-225. They are basically the same gun with the same magazine structure... but one releases from the SIDE, the other (European) from the BOTTOM. All SIG Mags work fine.

I have one of those Swiss P225s and love it. Very accurate and totally reliable with every 9mm load I feed it. Yes, mine has a MUCH better trigger pull than those I have seen on the German P6s. The great thing about the heel release is that if you carry the P225 concealed in a high ride tilted pancake style holster, you will not draw it someday and find that at some time during your day, you have hit the mag release button and the mag was...
