Good stuff. First the Australians, now the Canadians. Can't wait for the AAP/CDC posting (rolls eyes). It'll probably say something insanely ridiculous like "while other countries have reviewed the same exact evidence we have, they are all wrong. We feel the American population is significantly different from the Canadian and Australian populations and therefore have come to a different ...
One more reason that justifies for British Columbia the title of "one of the top three places in Federico's world"! Not only it contains Whistler, Vancouver and a lot of great, friendly Canadians, but it dots the i's where they belong. Some aspects of the position are vaguely reminiscent of the USA's AAP middle-of-the-road position, such as "Physicians should understand the basis for the ...
It seems pretty clear the CPSBC is issuing a "No" recommendation on routine infant circumcision. Part of that would be that they disagree with the procedure in line with the current practice in that province and the rest of the country. But I wonder if it is not a shot over the bow of their neigbor to the south (The US) prompting them to make a similar statement. The rumor mill has it that ...
"...The rumor mill has it that the AAP is considering taking the opposite tack [i.e. supporting RIC] in their next policy statement...."
And most likely they will, Frank. I don't think that the political pressure exerted by a powerful religious group and the financially-compromised medical community will allow them to do otherwise.
As to whether the CDC, the AAP and other American ...
I very much liked the fact that both this guidance and the information published by the Australians included more then hand waving references to ethical, legal, and human rights considerations. It's important that those concerns get into the literature. The more ethics show up the more seriously people will take it and the more likely boys will get treated as they should. I am hoping they talk ...
<<The rumor mill has it that the AAP is considering taking the opposite tack in their next policy statement.>>
If that does happen, if the AAP in fact does take a stance in favor of RIC, then it will be a sad, sad day for America indeed. It will also likely be the first time in my life that I will truly feel ashamed to call myself an American.
Do you know when the AAP is planning to come...
Don't forget we're bankrupt. These plans call for more funding for infant circ, but the money just isn't there. Both NJ and NY states are on the verge of declaring "fiscal emergencies", and everyone knows that California isn't doing so hot either. That leaves very little room for increased funding of something everyone knows is BS.
I feel the same way. Traci. But I will have to see it before I will believe it. Sometimes these rumors are generated deliberately as rumors many times develop a life of their own. Also sometimes put out to get an idea of public sentiments prior to any decision. As long as the board can escape memberships by religious or monetary seeking individuals I have hope.
I find the ...
"Do you know when the AAP is planning to come out with their next policy statement? Obviously that is something I would be very curious to see when it does happen."
At present, all we know is that a statement from the CDC, AAP and AAFP, singly or collectively will be made 'soon'.
I received an update from Intact America today. The following is a copy of its text:
