Thread: New line but IP Profile stuck at 3000? :: PlusNet plc :: think broadband

Started 2 months, 1 week ago by WelshWArrior
Hi everyone Following on form this thread BT have now given me a new line as of yesterday afternoon. The BT engineer reckoned the T-junction outside my property was full of water and I was picking up noise from next door's line! Anyway, my router has been sync'd at 8128 ever since with no errors or drops and no noise on the line. However, speeds are only in the region of 2...

Hiya, We've just had an update from BT, so I've re profiled your line @ 7150Kbps. James Bailey Plusnet Comms Team Service Status :: RSS :: Email :: Twitter

That's great - cheers James. Would I be right in saying that as it's a new line, it has to go through the training again?? Speedtest Result!

Metronet_James replied 2 months, 1 week ago
Yep. Signs are good though with that sync speed. I wouldn't expect any problems. James Bailey Plusnet Comms Team Service Status :: RSS :: Email :: Twitter

Cheers James Will let ya know how I get on after the 10 days then. Fingers crossed Speedtest Result!

Well it's day 3 after BT gave me a new line and I am still yet to see speeds over 1.8meg even though the line has been constantly sync'd at 8128 with no disconnections! I have done several speed tests including the BT SPeedtester and none have given me anything faster than 1.8meg. I have had website timeouts and general browsing is VERY slow. Just donwloading 5 emails this morning ...

Have you tried a single disconnect/reconnect to see if it's because you haven't picked up the correct profile? jelv Plusnet Community forums: http://community.plus.net Constructive help from a large knowledgeable group of current Plusnet users

I have done 2 just to be sure. BTSpeedtester says profile is 7150 and so does the Portal. I will try another now and see what happens. Can't understand it - router stats are: Uptime: 0 days, 16:28:52 DSL Type: G.992.1 annex A Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 8,128 Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB] 11.98 / 81.91 Output Power (Up/Down) [...

Clutching at straws: have you checked your usage allowance? jelv Plusnet Community forums: http://community.plus.net Constructive help from a large knowledgeable group of current Plusnet users

Jelv - just checked and used 5.9gig out of 30 - surprised I've managed that much to be honest with the state of the speed on this line! RobertoS - Yeah it would be if it wasn't playing up!! Anyone know what could be causing this? BT reckon the line is fine and the engineer said most other people he has seen on the estate get at least 6meg!! What else can I try? ...

In reply to a post by Metronet_James : Those are the standard display of connection stats from Netgear routers unless I'm mistaken. It's sync, not throughput. If we are still talking about this post , which in threaded mode we are, then 7120 is not a possible BT Wholesale sync. That's him. Unfortunately the BT tests we have show your average throughput at being mid-4000's. I'm assuming you've had some good speedtest results in the midst of all the bad ones? Just got back to this thread again. I was obviously out of date (by a long shot) - good to know how the BT speedtester works (at least as far as ISP network is concerned!). Thanks to you, James and Robertos for continuing the discussion in my absence and getting to the bottom of it...

It does look like a PN problem, although BT can sometimes not send the IP profile change to PN so could still be BT. - Peter -- plus net ADSL Broadband Premier option 1 Customer Plusnet Usergroup (PUG) Member [ [/b] PUG Website | PUG Forums | PUG Issue Tracker | UserTools Website | Service Status by Email | Exchange Checker ]

If that is actual IP throughput then it needs to be framed and sent to the Guiness book of records. Best IP Profile is 7150 and it usually is a 100 to 200Kbps below that at best. 7120Kbps may be their sync speed, which is very different to throughput.
