I don't think the new edition gives you more or better info. What about just downloading the chapters you need in order to carry less weight... Edited by: zauberberg

Too expensive and I its not a convenient way to use a guidebook. Thanks for your opinion.

Old info is like old food, sometimes you retch. I cut it into sections and take what I need. The rest makes fair toilet paper, clean up rags, etc..

Really ed? retching - that's a fresh perspective.

Go for the new, you can get it for less than two days' budget. If you find the right place and bargain hard you can buy it for around 800 rupees or so.

800! That's cheap.

I'd buy one here either way. It's 1kg of a baggage allowance with no legroom. You can pick up a 2007 book for very little, sometimes even for free (people leaving the country who'll donate it). I suppose things'll have changed for the 2009 book but... I'd just wing it in Delhi (you know your way around there anyway) and see about a book once you get to PaharGanj. Have fun! When are you ...

The best parts of a book are the maps for cities where you will be spending some time and, what the highlights are. Other than that (especially for those who are return visitors), it's just extra weight to carry around. Cheers Zoltan

I"m taking a book round India with me. Its just a question of whether its a new one or an old one. Bloem, Mumbai on Saturday. I've got a friend there who's going to shuttle me around until I take the train over to Chennai. She loves to look after me. :-) have any of you guys heard of a book called "Goddess of Stones" by Norman Lewis? Its about Orissa. Its been recommended to me on India...

So I am using my old guidebook. So far so good I think though I haven't had a chance to compare it.

You probably can. I saw one there. Any space in your luggage for one pale large individual to sneak in.?

Take the old book. You can find anything new in the city by talking to the locals.
