Thread: New computer system specs for CS4

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by Cyndee M
I need to replace one of my office systems. It's been over 3 years since I've bought a new computer, and would like to know what I should look for in a good system to run CS4 Design Suite. Main applications I use heavily are ID & Acrobat. Light usage of PS and IL. I've usually bought Dells and would consider staying with it. I will likely go with Windows 7 (is Home okay or do I need more...

Win 7 Home Premium is fine. I suggest you consider the 64 bit version along with about 8 gigs of RAM. You should most definitely make sure the machine has video card. Steer very clear of integrated graphics. Bob

Thanks for the help Bob. Does the processor matter (there's duo & quod Intel processors and triple AMDs)? What about which of the available video card choices (noting I have dual montiors)?

Right now I'd stick with the Intel processors. The best bang for the buck is either the core 2 duos or the quad cores. I've got a Q6600 and I can't find any reason at all to spend a whole lot to upgrade it to an i7 since that would mean new mobo and RAM. Video cards, stick with the big names such as nVidia with at least 512 megs or on board RAM. Bob...

I have no problem with the PDF printer in Win 7 64. That said, I had to actually test it since I never use it anyway. Bob

(I don't think I would use mine much either) Since I am starting from scratch I may look for a motherboard that supports i7. Do you have any suggestions for a motherboard with 8 gig ram? Thank you Art

I like the Gigabyte boards. Bob

Thanks for all your help Bob. I'm inclined to a Dell Studio Desktop with a Quad Core processor and 8 GB Ram. They offer an ATI Radeon 4350 video card -- should that be okay or should I go up with one of the nVidias?
