Thread: New TRS owner failure to slide lock after last round

Started 3 months, 3 weeks ago by Red Shirt
First let me say that I'm a new Les Baer TRS owner, first post. I have about 500 rounds thru my TRS so far it eats its just about any ammo, no ftf but with the supplied mags it fails to lock to the rear after last round except with one of the mags. Anyone else seen this problem, any suggestions on which mags to goto next. This is going to be my off duty gun once reliablity gets to where I know...

I would suggest Wilson Combat ETM or Chip McCormic power magazines. Both work all the time for me.

I have always had good luck with Wilson Combat standard 47D 8 rounders, as long as the springs are not too worn.

Baer magazines aren't the best. I use Chip McCormick 8 and 10 round magazines and have pretty good results so far.

My Baer mag did the same thing(faulty follower)...replaced it with a Wilson hybrid follower and don't look back. You can keep the original Baer mag spring.

You dont really have to buy new mags, just replace the springs with Wolff 11 lb mag springs, dont matter if 8 rd or 7rd les baer mags, same mag body, 969-713-730 is Brownells number. This has worked for me over the last 10 years. IMO found the Les Baer mag springs to be on the light side. good luck.

Thanks for all the suggestions I'll let you know which I tried and how it worked

In any serious 1911, I use the Tripp Super 7 follower and magazine in seven-round Colt Metalform or eight-round Wilson magazines. There is a kit for each magazine body, so be sure to get the correct kit.

You definitely have a mag issue. The follower is not being pushed up high enough to engage the slide stop enough to lock the slide to the rear. Take the slide off the frame and put the slide stop back in and then put one of your suspect mags in and check how much movement there is. I use CMC, Wilson and Wolff mags and never had a problem with them doing exhibiting the same issue....

Thanks! On Wilson Combat's website, does it matter if I get the 19 or the 266, 45 kit? They both work for a 7 round mag which is what I have, so I am a bit confused. http://www.wilsoncombat.com/a_springs_followers.asp

All of my Baer mags worked fine.......for a while. After they each got about 300-500 rounds through them, the plastic follower started to crush where it makes contact with the slide stop. Replaced em all with CMP's.
