Thread: New Projects for 2010

Started 2 months ago by Hollywood Detective
I've decided to go more challenge Hollywood Cars for my Collection. First film drawn from hat... The Great Race. I'm asking your help to know what diecast cars are close match in 1/64 Scale. Help me find a close match and my projects will begin early next year. http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_20469-Made-for-Movie- Hannibal-8.html http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3162/2790056925_b1e df95265....

Sounds like a great project, the Hannibal 8 is one of my favorites. I'm afraid I can't offer any suggestions for base vehicles, though - anything you get would have to be extensively reworked nearly to the point of a full scratchbuild. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Me too. They all look great cars but can't think of any definite donor cars you could use apart from a possibility for the 2nd one 1907 Thomas- I can remember having a small Rolls Royce (Silver Ghost?) in 1/64 as a kid but cant remember if it was Matchbox or an old Lesney. Could be a possibility if you could find a real scrapper going cheap, as I dread to think how much some of those oldies are ...

I saw the Hannibal 8 at the Petersen Museum in LA back in 2005: I'm guessing this car was scratch-built for the movie. - Joe

Stumbled across this on my searches guys- Looks like the original Hannibal 8's up for sale: http://www.oldride.com/classic_cars/703285.html It'd make a cool daily runabout to give Herbie a rest HD!! And it'd come in real handy for reference for making the model I had to look at the price a few times to check I got the number of noughts right though!!

You say that to Herbie and he will be jealous or unhappy . Trust me, I know Herbie. As for the Leslie Special the Matchbox Rolls Royce Silver Ghost is perfect. Ok Spencer, thats have fun making a Matchbox Leslie Special. Metalwizard you'll need to step in.

I'll certainly step in and help where I can HD. The Torpedo and Rocket have a lot of cylidrical parts which can be turned in metal or plastic, so I'm happy to help 'ya on those. Won't be able to fabricate the entire cars for 'ya though! Which leads to a confession on one of them- I started one a couple years back but didn't finish it as it looked ok but ended up slightly larger than scale. I ...

I'm in, too - I have the beginnings of a set of decals for my own scratchbuilds, so I'll find those and see where I left off.

You guys are awesome, love working with pros. Someday now how to use a Pot-metal machine to make better cars. I'll need to find something to make base of the Rocket Car, anyone have ideas ? Torpedo is easy, any action figure or Hot Wheels car with a Torpedo will work. So far, Hannibal 8 chassis I'm still solving but some ideas for the body, any one have ideas for the Hannibal 8 chassis ? As ...
