Thread: "Never raced" - why does everyone say this in their ads?
Started 1 year, 10 months ago by ajd187
About 95% of the ads I see on eBay, Craig's List, etc, for used bikes, all say "never raced".
I'm wondering why people say this.
Most people I know who race are meticulous about maintenance. Check valves all the time, change oil every few motos, and tear the entire bike down in the winter. I have one friend who races and I would buy any of his bikes in a second. They are very well...
because have being a race bike the chances of it have being in a hard core crash then cobbled back together to look good to the buyer are higher.
Also sometimes they know its fixing to need new valves so its sale time till they can find a new race bike.
yeah people tend to think race bikes get beat down, i race my bike alsmost everyweekend, but after that weekend, i tare it down and check everything, super clean it and replace most parts, yeah we may beat on them alot, but theyre very well maintained,, i even put "never raced" in my adds lol suckerssss
ps. a word to my advice, NEVER EVER buy a raced bike!
if you say its been raced people tend to think its been dogged and not taken care of, never raced is just a way of saying it hasnt underwent that much stress.
The people that want to buy a bike have no idea what they are doing, if you ask them what kind of bike they have they reply "The blue one". To them, never raced means it was babied, no problems.
If my group of friends is any indication, the ones that race usually know how to maintain their bikes and do. The ones that don't race have no clue how to maintain them and don't bother trying. They also tend to whine when their bikes break down all the time.
Of my friend's bikes, I'd buy the raced bikes over the non raced ones in a heart beat.
thats my favorite, "never raced" yet they put race numbers on there bike, I don't know about you guy's but I never put numbers on my bike until I started racing, and I even took my numbers off when I started freestylin...... but I usually sell my bikes around the time they need there second top end, or by about the 3 or 4 valve adjustment, usually by then there is more stuff thats going to be ...

I wrote this thread almost two years ago, and now have some more perspective on this topic. I bought a "never raced" bike from a 15 year old kid in the fall of 2007. Still own that bike, and it has been great. However I had to replace so many stuck bolts on that bike, had to clean a chain that had rusted from sitting etc. This summer I bought a harescramble bike from a Vet C racer. This bike has been great. Everything is...

I have bought several bikes over the years and have noticed that when a seller advertises an MX bike or quad as "never raced," he really means "never cleaned air filter or changed oil." I'm sure there are exceptions though. For instance, I was out play riding one day and saw this guy riding a YFZ 450 quad. We stopped and talked for a minute, and he was going on and on about how fast and reliable his...
