Thread: Netherlands candidate to host Worlds 2012

Started 1 month, 4 weeks ago by YoenNL
It was already some time in the air, but now officially released as notification on the federation's website, that Rotterdam is candidate to host Worlds 2012. The event should take place in the Ahoy sportshall, which is the venue of a lot of events e.g. an international tennis tournament. http://www.knsb.nl/KNSB-nieuws/vervolg_ndb.asp?id= 7072

WOW> Would be great; I'd probably try and go. It always surprises me; Netherlands has such an amazing record and tradition in speed skating, but none whatsoever in figure skating; I wonder why?

That's an incredible idea. I wouldn't even need a place to stay, I could commute there! Let it come true.

well. NED has never ever hosted a big senior event and I am not sure past jr/small events have been THAT succesful. So one can dream that the ISU might want to review again and again if we are really REALLY capable of hosting a sr event but OK, back to reality...I suppose it will be in Ontarioooo

Shouldn't it be announced already?! I *might* be in the Netherlands, studying, by then; I'd so go.

The longer we have to wait, the more convinced I am that London, Ontario will be the host. The announcement could be made at Skate Canada in Kitchener.

Here is a vague statement issued by the ISU regarding the allotment of the 2012 ISU championships: Quote: 3. Allotments of ISU Championships 2012 (season 2011/2012) The Council reviewed the applications received and concluded that some additional evaluation was necessary for certain Championships . Decisions and communication of the provisional allotments for the 2012 Championships are expected during the month of November 2009 .

I am SO HOPING Worlds will be in Canada (not that I wouldn't love to go to Europe), but by 2012 I may actually be able to afford to go again, even if it's at the other end of the country. And I'll make a side trip afterward (Montreal, Ottawa, NY ?)
