Finally got the dual band (2.4 & 5 Ghz) wireless ADSL2+ modem router DGND3300 delivered from USA yesterday...bought it for £115 from Ebay USA. I am now using this with my sony vaio 5ghz equipped notebook with Intel 4965AGN and had to buy a Netgear WNDA3100 dual band N usb adaptor for my desktop upstairs. The wireless operating modes are: Upto 130mbps at 2.4 Ghz Upto 130 mbps at 5 ...

The router hasn't been released yet in the UK and i got sick of waiting which is why i bought it from the States. Last i heard was that its going to be released over here in June or July (June most likely).

DECT doesn't operate on 2.4Ghz... Glad you like your new kit though! Comms is hard

PhilipD replied 7 months, 2 weeks ago
Hi From the firmware file it would seem it is just is using the 6358 Broadcom chip. Essentially it is a DGN2000 or DG834N with a 5GHz/2.4GHz wireless part. Regards Phil

I forgot to mention there's also a USB port on the back covered by a sticker (b*tch to get off) saying "USB functionality available only with future firmware upgrade" so this probably means that sometime in the future you could also use a USB broadband dongle with this router...perfect for backup broadband

So all your neighbours who went out of their way to get 5GHz video senders to avoid interference from local wi-fi networks must be thrilled?

In reply to a post by gomezz : So all your neighbours who went out of their way to get 5GHz video senders to avoid interference from local wi-fi networks must be thrilled? Absolutely! Even better, because the router is a US model (with US firmware), chances are this router transmits wireless signals at a higher output power than its UK counterparts...causing even more ...

Just an update, the latest firmware 1.1.00.32NA now provides USB functionality on this router. However its disappointing that it only supports USB flash memory drives (works fine with my 64GB Corsair Flash Voyager), it does not seem to support a USB 3G broadband dongle which is what i was hoping for....tut tut tut Entanet L2TP ISP connected @ 8128/832 kbps Pioneer Kuro PDP-428XD Plasma TV Sky Thomson HD Box with 1TB WD10EVCS Logitech Harmony...

Hi The Billion 7800N is perhaps one of the few that do have Gigabyte ports and ADSL modem and can also work as a pure router using the 5th WAN Ethernet port. It is odd there are not more about. It can't be that much more expensive to go to 1Gig ports, in most cases it is probably just replacing the one Broadcom chip (or similar) with a newer one that supports 1 Gig, I bet they are pin to pin compatible. WNDR3700 has gigabit LAN ports ...but it's not got ADSL modem built in (none of the gigabit routers do as far as i know - at least not yet) Edited by andrewdb (Fri 27-Nov-09 00:48:03)

Well to my surprise, the DGND3300 arrived today Too soon to say if it's any good or not, but I can say it seems to work just fine. Plugged it in, changed a couple of settings (for my ISP - Be) and hey presto it works a treat. Sync's slightly faster than the Thomson Bebox, and the wireless coverage seems slightly better. I will report back again once I have had chance to play with it some more, but for now, very pleased.

In reply to a post by subtext : Any evidence that Netgear weakens Wifi on hardware exported to Europe? The problems with Wifi range on my own DG834N a couple of years ago were mirrored in the US, so I suspect not. At least not then. Right now, it really is just an assumption based on legislation. Netgear won't be doing this, because they don't give a toss about you breaking the law. Importing radio gear into the UK...
