Today, I paid a visit to a church here in San Diego. It was recommended to me by a girl I work with. At first I didn't want to go. For one thing, I was not a Christian and even when I was, I found church to be nothing more than a waste of time. Then my friend told me the church had a lot of hot girls. Hmmm, maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all...
I'm going to start out with the ...
What was the denomination?
I remember you were a fundamentalist baptist, and perhaps you went to another one.
There are some good Methodist and Lutheran Churches I've been to.
Who knows, maybe you are secretly waiting to be a good cafeteria Catholic.
Ness757,
I'm sorry to hear that your latest church-going experience was so negative. I know you said, "It's not the church or the preacher, it's the religion." I didn't see enough in your post to convince me of that. Yes, you've had a run of similar experiences, but you'll find a wide array of Christians if you look a bit further. (None of them will be perfect, though.) Not all of us...

It was a non-denominational church.
Wait, who did you used to be?

Ness, there is absolutely no sense in going to any mainstream Christian churches. And especially if all you are interested in is meeting girls.
I see now that this higher power could just be mind over matter. I think you could believe in this and still be an atheist. It does not seem that much has changed in you, but I am glad you are happier.

Yes, I am equating this term with the "universal spiritual need" shared by human beings because desperation is a state of being in great need. (The word can also be used in an emotional sense, and...

I don't know about anyone else but personally heard the word desperation in any way connected to Christianity. I never in my life even heard the song with desperate in it. I have never heard it in a church sermon, Catholic or Protestant or in any other group which claim they are Christian. One of the definitions that may fit is one that is listed in my dictionary: (of a person) having a great need or desire of something. People can feel...
