Neotel NeoGo takes on mobile operators
Neotels launch of its NeoGo service last month puts the company into direct competition with the likes of MTN and Vodacom in the mobile data market.
I did not know they were still in business, thought they took of and left the country.
I do not even bother with news from them any more, lots thunder but no rain.

The 1.5GB of data capacity bundled with a 24-month NeoGo contract boils down to a charge of roughly 5c a megabit of data, comparative packages from cellular providers come in at roughly 34c a megabit.
Some maths lessons required. 1.5GB @ R299 = ~20c per Gigabyte.
Not nearly enough of a saving to overcome lack of coverage and lack of ...
But i'm glad that there is more compatition
I was in the UK for 2 years working my ass off and you should see how many companies there are for ADSL and such.
Thats what we need here more compatition so that we can move forward into being a first world country.
So i give Neotel a big thumbs up, and any other company willing to open shop here.

A megabyte and a megabit aren't the same, although it would appear that their calculations are still wrong.
R299 / (1.5 * 1024 * 8) = 2.4c / megabit = 20c / megabyte

Missed the Mega bit bit. Who the @#$% quotes prices by the Megabit???
All the other prices in the ...

Why's it a ripoff? Cheaper than other mobile offerings. Their coverage is the major problem. I, for example, would be able to make use of this at home, ...

In all cases, it is complementary rather than a substitute for 3G. Basically, WiMAX,...
to ADS: Comparatively, UMTS, HSDPA, is far more cost effective to deploy than CDMA. Also CDMA2000 is a facelift of CDMA 1x. If you speak to the USA networks, you will find that there is not much future for CDMA technology. As the UMTS/HSDPA technology is considerably more stable than CDMA. Hence the USA trying to move away from CDMA for the past 7 years, but unsuccessful due to the humongous costs involved. This is after speaking to Telecom...

Their devices actually have 2nd hand resell value. If you don't like VC you can switch to MTN within a few days and use the...

Quote: In fact, www.speedtest.net -- one of the most respected tools for testing the capabilities of an internet connection -- gave the NeoGo device download/upload speeds of 0.3Mbps and 0.1Mbps respectively. Interestingly web browsing and email download performance seemed average to good during everyday usage of the device, suggesting that some black magic bandwidth tinkering is taking place on Neotels back-end. Black magic is able to...
