Thread: Need some opinions about a junior's development

Thanks for the quick response. In terms of his consistent distance, he hits over 30 yards from the tee about 75% of the time. In terms of off the turf, I've never let him try. I think this mainly stemmed from the Penick academy I went too in which they pretty much ingrained to practice on a tee. I don't anymore, but figured for him to learn and not get discouraged, give him as much advantage ...

When my son first started swinging a club (age 2) I just let him swing away but by age 5 I had shown him a proper stance and foot position and at that age he preferred the 10 finger baseball style grip. Then it seems like we are mostly alike then. As of now, I just ask him if he is set up right (which means he takes a quick glance to see if his ball position and alignment are good) and goes. I've never taught a kid to play golf, but I have heard that there are two approaches when it comes to power. (1) Swing hard; learn control later; (2) Swing with control; add power later. I have no idea which is better (if either is), but I thought I would mention this. Thoughts, anyone?

I don't know which is better, but how I'm approaching it and it sounds leaguegolf is the same is the emphasis on power development.
