Thread: Need input - AD Mom needs hysterectomy - anesthesia concerns as well aspost op
Started 1 month ago by Summerskies
Hi my friends. I just got off the phone with the surgeon. Looks like my dear Mom has one of the worst prolapsed uteruses he has seen in a long time. She has to have a hysterectomy very soon. What can I expect post-op and also any advice on better alternatives for anesthesia would be welcome. She is in long term care and was doing very well, a high-function level 4 to 6. She was pretty much ...
Sandy, you poor things. I cannot imagine your terror. Mom got lost once and was missing for not quite two hours. Neighbors, police, the whole nine yards. Found safe and sound but never would I wish that kind of fear on anyone! Mom is enrolled in Medic Alert/Safe Return but she did not resist the bracelet. It does not have to be removed for bathing, nor can she remove it herself because of the ...
Sandy - Glad he was found and is okay. The same thing happened to my mom just about 3 weeks ago, but not to that level. They did call the helicopters out to search for her, but she was found within an hour in somebody's front driveway talking to some people. My dad had to put deadbolts on all the doors, but in that short time she has already declined even more and has not tried to open the ...
I feel so badly for you. I don't think there is anything more difficult than caring for someone with advanced dementia. It was definitely the hardest thing I have ever done. We placed my mom in a Alz. facility 4 months ago. Sometimes I think of having her come home to live with me again and then I remember just how hard it was. God bless you. I will be praying that God gives you peace in ...
Raven, I'm sorry you and your mom are having to go through yet another major change. But you, my friend, have proven time and time again that you can and will do what is best for her. So you allow yourself your emotions while you're doing what you know is right. You have earned each and every one them. And when things are settled, shake hands with Jose Cuervo. In small doses, he's alright!
When I saw those monkeys, the first time I went to the SD Zoo, I immediately thought of Dr. Seuss' Thing One and Thing Two. My one good thing today was a delicious salad for dinner on a much-too-hot day. Why do so many of my ogt's have to do with food!!
I think when we taking care of someone with AD, we need to learn how to understand them, we are the ones who need to learn their language in order for them to understand us, cause their memory is not that good anymore, and there is nothing we can do about it, we can't control memory loss, only our reaction to it, but we can help them by changing our way of communication with our memory-impaired ...
Dear Forum Friends: My mother's memorial service was lovely and everything went well. I am pretty much fatigued and in that no-man's land of "let down" and having a hard time processing Mother is gone. BUT - I will be away from the community a bit longer. My poor 93 year old step-dad, (Alzheimer's Disease), has taken an abrupt and extreme downturn in his condition. Wandering, delusions, ...
I'm glad her pain was gone this morning . Unless it would change the way he treats her pain, I think I'd probably skip the PETSCAN unless you'd treat anything he might find during the scan. I'd make an appointment with a pain specialist for later next week in the event that her current doctor isn't willing to prescribe pain medications that are actually strong enough to help with the pain. Hopefully her pain will stay...
Oh, Nina! I am so sorry about your brother. Sometimes it feels like we never get a break. But what a wonderful thing to happen, with the asst and her gift. But how precious for him to realize that love sometimes comes in strange packages. Wrapping arms of friendship around you!
quote: I just wanted you to know that some Alzheimer's LO's experience these as well. Yes, my Alz mom has had some occurrence of hallucinations. Just FYI, however, the hallucinations associated with Lewy body are especially vivid and intense.
As a caregiver or caregiver advocate,,,we will always feel a sense of "guilt",,,guilt for placing our LO,,guilt for not handling a situation correctly,,guilt for our LO not comprehending things,,guilt when we're exhausted from no sleep,,constant cleaning and changing of our LO,,constant questioning of ourselves and feeling guilty for letting the rest of our family fall by the wayside due to constant needs of our LO with AD. You...
Dear Petunia: I am so glad that you received the support you deserve. This was absolutely the correct thing to do. My feeling is, that when the nurse team comes out to the facility to perform their audit of your mother's situation, there will be grave negative findings. This is good because this is where remediation begins. Please do not inform the NH that this is going to happen. It is best if things take their natural course without...
I think that nursing home doesn't understand dementia - and I would definitely not put my mom there. Would they also say a 3 year old has a right to decide where they will live? Same same as far as ability to reason. Its actually cruel to try and make them make decisions, the frustration they feel because of their lack of ability to reason is very great. You can't force someone who's brain is broken to do things they used to be...
