Aaron, just noticed this, but $4500 budget would allow someone to add in something like this for the main display Mitsubishi WD73C9 73" C9 Series DLP Rear Projection HDTV - 1080p, 1920x1080. 120Hz, 3x HDMI at TigerDirect.com 73" 1080 DLP TV

The OP is right here 3 gtx 285's Why not 2 gtx 295's in quad sli?

Aaron_8015 replied 3 months, 1 week ago
well quad SLI does not scale very well, and in alot of cases it will lower performance than just having one. Tri-SLI is a little better but still has its problems (you would be better off with 2 285's, I would get three just because I would fold with them ).

james.c replied 3 months, 1 week ago
What do you mean by "quad SLI does not scale very well"

Aaron_8015 replied 3 months, 1 week ago
This would be an example of bad scaling... Benchmark Results: Crysis - Review Tom's Hardware : GeForce GTX 295 In Quad-SLI Benchmark Results: Left 4 Dead - Review Tom's Hardware : GeForce GTX 295 In Quad-SLI Its normaly at the low resolutions, there is really no point in quad SLI unless you game at 2560x1600 otherwise a 295 on its own would be fine (2x285's are ...

james.c replied 3 months, 1 week ago
Alright I'll go with the 2 285s Thankyou for all your help

Aaron_8015 replied 3 months, 1 week ago
No problem. I would suggest to think hard about it as $4500 is alot to spend on a computer, make sure you are getting what you want.

I never knew these forums existed... My life would have been a lot easier in the past if I'd known about this site... Anyway... I've been on NewEgg for about 6 hours now reading reviews and such. Trying to put something together. I find myself going back and forth on almost everything... I want to be able to run most games now on "max settings" if possible. ...

no. your getting your info wrong or mixed up, what your referring to is Triple Channel RAM, for DDR3. and is only available for Motherboards equipped with an Intel X58 chipset, using Socket 1366 Core i7's or Xeon CPU's, like the system I have. Socket 1156 Intels P55 Chipset boards that run the regular Core i5, i7 and Xeon CPU's use DDR3 but do not allow for Triple Channel RAM, only Dual Channel, which means you'll need to...

If you are thinking of replacing the mobo, cpu, ram then why stick with the old 775 socket? go to 1156, 1366 or AM3. Don't waste your time with two 295's way overpriced and not very good scaling using quad SLI... Look into a 5870 or 5970.... might even want to wait till the GT300's come out jan next year. is this a separate build from your other thread or what? if not then why another thread? is this a gaming build or what are you planning on doing with the pc? It all looks like it will be compatible but if your budget allows it and are looking at doing any gaming I'd go with a better GPU.
