Thread: Need Advice, recently busted and turned informant (maybe)

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by zackkurt82
Hey I need advice. I realize no one is a lawyer here but I am curious to see if anyone has been or know someone who has been in a similar situation. I met someone to make a purchase more than 25 oxy pills for myself to use when my insurance ran out. It turns out the person I was buying from was a cop and i was cuffed and brought into an unmakred car where they told me that if i ...

I assume you're talking about cash deposits. Here in the USA, I believe anything $10,000 and over is reported (somewhere, I'm not sure exactly where), the rationale being that a bank account can be used to launder money. With deposits of less than this, the concern is more about being audited by the IRS, if the cash deposits are income that isn't declared. My guess is that the ...

Just posting to confirm the 10,000 rule. I work at a bank.

Actually, I think $10,000 is high. There is a $10,000-level reporting requirement in the U.S., but I'm pretty sure the bank can be obligated to report at lower numbers, such as $5,000. Even $2,000 in cash can be enough to cause a voluntary report that the bank decides to make depending on who the customer is. Furthermore, they can aggregate (add up) multiple transactions that ...

So anyone who thinks a bank account is "private" is woefully mistaken. Bank accounts are first line tools for government snoopervision.

Another thing to remember is that charging people under the Analogue Act is in many cases an uphill battle for prosecutors. Why do you think the DEA has been trying (apparently without much success) to get blanket scheduling for the PIHKAL/TIHKAL substances? And what are they going to put in the paper? Joe Blow was charged with possession of pills "containing an unknown substance"? ...

Tim The Tool man was caught with marijuana, narcotics, and "suspected heroin." Well it is kind of a small town and he knows a lot of people so he has a lot to lose. When he went to the cop station to fix his zip code since he gave them the wrong one, the officer at the station told him he has been around for a while and they think the 2C-I us suspected heroin... I dont see how ...

Even given the disaster that presumptive field tests for drugs has turned out to be (see the recent thread in Drugs in the Media ), it's a travesty that LE would feed a story like that to the paper without at least doing a presumptive test for heroin. It seems they are more intent on ruining young lives than upholding any semblance of justice. A pretty sad commentary on this ...

Hey guys, I got probation without verdict under the expedited drug program for possession (crack cocaine). I am on said probation for 6mo and providing I keep my nose clean during that time I was told the charge will be expunged. Now, do I have to follow up on the expungement or will it just magically disappear when I'm finished? Also, if I attempt to get a new job within...

Don't call the detective. Call the clerk of court where you're case is to be heard instead. The judge isn't going to be impressed that you've failed to update your current address information. They probably WILL issue a bench warrant for you (if they haven't already), and your best bet will be to call anonymously on Monday, to find out if there is an active warrant out for you or not. If there is, you're going to...

The important thing now is: do not cooperate or even speak to the police without consulting an attorney. It's a possibility that she could be arrested and prints taken, and that possibility is enhanced if she is convinced to consent to an "interview," which would really be an interrogation. It's best to not even answer the phone at this point, and send everything to voicemail--in other words, make it as difficult...

is my friend fucked?

Right. A prosecutor would have to prove that he gave the friend money for the purpose of doing something illegal. There are several ways that this can be done, including statements made by your friend. For this reason, your friend should not talk to the police.

Well, knowing your jurisdiction really helps to answer legal questions, and I worked on a presumption of US law with most users of the site being there. i'm guessing from your posts, your British? i'm a canuk and we follow the same legal system as you more or less. (different specific laws though) #1 Royal prerogative. The Crown can technically ascend any law it wants that doesn't contravene constitutional limitations. Your...

www.martindale.com is an excellent resource for finding a lawyer. It is a site where lawyers' biographies, experience, areas of practice, and peer reviews are posted. Ideally you will want to pick someone experienced in DWI defense in the parish in which it happened. You may be able to get a free consultation, at least by phone. A lawyer may help get you a better deal or solidify the deal you've been offered. I advise getting a...
