In my fruitless search for a 22-fret neck-thru strat, I've begun considering a DIY job on a bolt-on instrument. Has anybody ever done one?
I spoke with a luthier about it briefly, and he said my best bet would be to utilize both new hardware and hide glue, especially if removing considerable amounts of material.
Any input is appreciated. I'm hoping to go from a traditional Strat plate...
Matt! I just finished listening to all of "Urethra Franklin", not a nice title,
and caught a sense of where you are at.
Something tells me jumping around onstage, maybe accidentally hitting things with your neck,
isn't something you worry about.
As a McCoy Tyner-Miles Davis-Jimi Hendrix style musician myself, let me comment on you first.
I thought your music was more orchestrated, too ...

I urge you to consider the ramifications, the "solidifying' aspects,
and the potential plays on the words "hide glue".
I've never heard of a tanning agent used during guitar construction.
I certainly have been present and witnessing young guitarists getting skinned.
That's called living off the fat of the land and the newly landed.
Here's a pic of a guitar I built.
The only glue I ...

Have you looked at what Carvin has to offer? I think they have a few neck-thru Strat ...
The configuration of which you speak would work just fine. But gluing is
not a good option IMO. Plug the existing holes if using a used neck and/or
drill your holes, bolt it together. I don't like the 3 bolt as there is the
potential to run a screw into the truss rod.
I would recomend going with the offset 4 screw setup if you have the neck space to do so, that way you can contour the top like you want to. As for gluing it... I really don't see that needing to be. Maybe just ensuring a tight fit on the neck pocket or what is left of it would work. WRG mentioned some plumbing epoxy material in another thread, customtele recent build thread actually. Maybe ...
I first thought John Watt a ridiculous bot
I somehow realized he's a loner
His theories are wack
His strings are too slack
Posting here is how he strokes his boner.
And to answer the orig post, and keep this on topic, I agree with the 4 screw offset to avoid the truss rod.
Dolan
Many strats had 3 screw neck plates, two towards the headstock and one towards the body. With the pull of the strings the single screw doesnt have the same job the other two do. The pocket does need to be super tight to prevent neck shift.
Warmouth has "through body" designs there is no such thing as a "through neck" design.
If you're going to use that body type and bolt the neck on ...
That's cool! I'd like to do that on one of my projects sometime in the future. Makes for a nice, clean look. May have to shorten the screws, but why not?

"If you could follow the construction of my guitar, before my DIY thread was locked because of these predatory users". John, Noone gives a flying fuch about you or your piece of shlit guitar nor any of your other lame uninformed opinions. We dont care about someone who goes around acting like a victum either. You've become a troubble maker and bring all your misery upon yourself. In fact this whole victim game...
I see you guys are still having your own private good times at the expense of sane musicians, you know, guys who don't need to live online at Harmony Central, people who have real lives. I never got the boot off a thread. It was the profanity used against me, and your postings, that got my thread locked. But that's okay, that's just Harmony Central your way. You make it stink. You should clean up your own residences, the dirty...
