Thread: NWN2 and Windows 7

Started 2 months ago by Souel
Has anyone else tried to use the tool set with windows 7? I have and it will not run even with compatibility mode. And with the deepest probing windows offers it says that the program is incompatible. Is there maybe going to be a patch for this issue? Is it known?

I have tried to install under Windows 7 64 and it fails. Your CD Key is invalid. I install under 32bit Vista and it works fine. Does Obsidian have a fix for this or what can we do?

Installed Windows 7 Ultimate (x86) (32bit), installed NWN 2, two expansions, ran updates, installed DX9.0c (redist), and then ran the toolset... no problems so far. Edited By Selene Moonsong on 11/01/09 01:14

I do have a problem though, my NWN2 refuses to run. When it starts up, it goes to full screen and the screen goes black. After a while I get an error message saying; "Unable to detect a video card with hardware 3D acceleration. Neverwinter Nights 2 requires a video card that supports then please make sure that it's enabled." After clicking OK I get another message; "Hardware 3D acceleration ...

@Peter Ruiter, The problem you are having sounds a lot like the problem people were having with Windows 7 RC Build 7100 in this topic .

@Selene Moonsong It worked like a charm (of course I had already tweaked my permissions on all files in such a way that I didn't had to change that). I also can't believe I forgot to mention that I'm indeed still running the Windows 7 RC build 7100 after giving all this info. I have to mention that I had already searched that specific topic and used the forums search function but never got to ...

I can run it under Windows 7 64-bit just fine. Well, there's a weird graphical glitch, but it only occurs doing the tutorial section of the OC and I doubt that's has anything to do with the OS it's running under.

You might want to see my post in this topic where I discuss the installation process, which Matt in going to try following with Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) setup when he can. My own installation was flawless except as stated in that topic. One thing I forgot to mention in that post, which I will go back and add in, was a reminder to disable your anti-virus program during installation and ...

Tried it with AV, firewall and anti-spyware software all disabled. It doesn't even start to install, as soon as the CD-key (the one that's registered to me on this account) is entered it comes up as invalid. The university has a firewall that blocks outbound traffic (except to certain ports) by default and has to have holes opened manually for anything else. Could this be an issue during ...

Be very careful when entering your CD Keys, I ran into a situation where I typed a U instead of a J, and the game installed okay, but I could not join an online session with a friend. I found that copy and paste did not always work well for some reason; possibly from picking up an extra space or something like not picking up a character. When uninstalling, make sure you completely remove the install directory. If the nencdkey.ini file is still...

I installed it and it worked like it did with XP, yet when I tried to install it on my Vista computer it gave me heck. I didn't get nvn2 to even work on my laptop until I got my WIN 7 update.

The game runs fine under my Windows 7 (64 bit) installation. The NWN2 toolset also runs but seems to use too much CPU resource (hovers around 70% - 99%). That's unacceptable and causes frequent slowness in the 3d render window. I've tested several and even tried to run the NWN2 toolset in XP compatibility mode. It still uses the same CPU %. Anyone else have this problem and possible fix? Here is the stats on my system. AMD Athlon 64...
