Thread: NEED HELP - Daycare issues

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by gm0123
We has another reaction at daycare yesterday. Luke got a hold of another child's sippy cup with milk in it. He started breaking out and by the time I got to the dycare (5 minute walk from my office) they had already given him the epi. I brought him to the hospital to be monitored and he is doing okay now. My issue is - I feel like the daycare is not willing to work with me to avoid these ...

Eek- the 3rd time!  It's time to shop for an alternative daycare.  Before you do that, you can try sitting down with the director.  I can see ONE time happening.  I'd think that they would be hyper vigilant after that... I've never heard of daycares that specialize in FA's.  My odd just started preschool at 4yrs old.  I have friends that work in daycares, I'll pick their brains tonight. ...

Gina, I'm so sorry that happened.  Do they let the kids walk around with their sippys?  Our DCP just gives the sippy at certain times only (lunch, snack times), when everyone is monitored and in a seat (at least that's what I've been told). The thing that really pisses me off is that DD gets breast milk in her sippy - can you imagine what would happen if another kid got a hold of a sippy with...

Angela - any info your friends can provide would be fantastic! Stacey - thanks for the support. I really need it right now. I am at work and can't focus at all. All I want to do is be with Luke to make sure he is okay.

When my DD was young she was on soy formula.  She accidentally grabbed another baby's bottle of breast milk and chugged away!  No harm, no foul, and the other mom was a huge milk producer so she didn't get mad.  I can understand once, maybe twice, but 3 times is a lot.  Maybe you should start interviewing other day-cares.  Find one that doesn't allow children to wonder around with food or ...

Gina, I am sorry this keeps happening to you.  A coming to jesus meeting with the director is in order.  Put it bluntly and ask them if they are trying to kill your child.  Every exposure worsens the reaction. Don't be afraid of stepping on toes. DS is in very small daycare the teachers are not overly edcuated, he is their first FA child at that.  But due to convience I chose it.  They are...

If your son was with a Nanny couldn't she take him to play groups, reading at the library, drop in centers etc so he would get enough time with other kids?

I agree w/ Becky. It is time to talk to the director, be mean and blunt about it.  And then it is time to look for a new place as well. Our DD goes to a family run place (in home).  She is around other kids, and the mom is GREAT w/ working w/ her FA.

3rd time?!  You need to bring that up to the STATE!  That's a MASSIVE violation of safety!  OK, Parker is in a special needs daycare, actually found it through a center for independance here in town.  Does your state/city have a mom's board like this?  That's how I found his daycare, just put the question out there with the situation and had SEVERAL response to go to said daycare.  Have ...

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL OF YOUR RESPONSES!!! I am going to go above the director and talk to the district manager. Her daughter is in the classroom next door so I see her often. I have a call into the Allergy Network of New England and to his pedi to see if they know of any daycares or child care providors that specialize or are very good at dealing with food allergies. The other ...

I would recommend seeing if there is a mom of a child with allergies who runs a home daycare.  I am just wondering where you live in MA because I know a frie3nd of a friend who takes a child in and her son is allergic to milk, eggs and nuts.. We live in Attleboro.. Kristen
