Thread: NASCAR (2009 Season)

Started 11 months, 1 week ago by DCRage
With the start of the 2009 season just 1 month away, the theme of the NASCAR offseason and coming season is uncertainty due to the struggline economy. Sponsors are pulling out, teams are closing and having to merge to survive, and tracks are bracing for smaller crowds among other things. The most notable casualty so far of the contraction has been Petty Enterprises, the long-time family-...

Only a week and a half or so to the Daytona 500. Hate to say it, but Jimmie Johnson won't stop until he has at least 8 Sprint Cups. So I say he'll win it again. It would be kind of nice for someone else to win it though. But meh. We'll see.

Almost forgot the Bud Shootout is tomorrow night! I'll update news & stuff later, a lot has happened over the last month or so. Edit: Here's some of what happened lately: The random position draw for the Budweiser Shootout was held last night. Drawing the lucky Bud bottle with the #1 flag, meaning pole was...Paul Menard. Drawing #2 was Elliott Sadler. Jimmie Johnson starts 21st, and bringing up...

Jeff Gordon did pretty well, went up and down, but in the end missed another wreck and finished 3rd or 4th (Damn Fox kept showing replays of it >.<). Harvick won it though, with a crash behind him (Remember the 2007 Daytona 500? ) and Jimmie Johnson crashing. Good race I think. Can't wait until next week for more.

There's a Happy Hot Rod in victory lane tonight-Kevin Harvick survived long enough to win a wreck-filled Bud Shootout and $200K. The Daytona 500 Front Row is set: Martin Truex Jr. wins his 2nd career pole, and Mark Martin will start 2nd. These 3 drivers are also locked in by virtue of time among drivers outside the top 35 in owner points: Bill Elliott, Travis Kvapil, Tony Stewart. Also locked ...

We're all set for Daytona after today's Gatorade Duels. Jeff Gordon won (Boooooo...) the first one, then my man Rowdy Busch did it again and took the second one! They'll start 3rd & 4th. No, the winless streak is not officially over, this was an exhibition race. The final 4 spots available for cars who didn't otherwise qualify go to Jeremy Mayfield, AJ Allmendinger, Scott Riggs, and Regan Smith....

Alright, a little over an hour to go before the Daytona 500 gets underway. Let's go Mark Martin! Kenseth wins a rain-shortened race with about 46-48 laps to go. This was one of the worst Daytona 500's I've ever seen, which such a dull ending. This message was edited by The Omega on Feb 15 2009.

Let's call it the Daytona 380. Worst to first and Kenseth wins, tomorrow the car's off to Daytona USA for the next year. The rest of the Top 5: Kevin Harvick, AJ Allmendinger, Clint Bowyer, Elliott Sadler. REal story was Junior, first the missing his pit then the 1-lap penalty for the tire on the line and finally causing The Big One after Brian Vickers forced him below the yellow line when they ...

I agree, a very dull ending. I was sitting for about an hour, waiting for it to end. The beginning was pretty sweet though. If it weren't for that, I would have called it the worst.

BUSTED...we have our first drug test failure under NASCAR's new testing policy: Paul Chodora, a member of Jeremy Mayfield's crew. He failed a mandatory test February 11 at Daytona. He wasn't tested until the race because Mayfield's team had not been formed until January. NASCAR did not reveal what Chodora did for Mayfield's team. He's suspended indefinitely.

First today, worst tomorrow...Brian Vickers edged out Jimmie Johnson for the pole for tomorrow's Auto Club 500, but it was short-lived as Vickers will have to start last in the race. Engine change. Jamie McMurray & Kurt Busch are in row 2. Tony Stewart starts 11th, while Daytona winner Matt Kenseth starts 24th. DNQs were Todd Bodine, Tony Raines, David Starr, Mike Garvey and Sterling Marlin. A ...

Offseason news time! It's now official...Danica's coming. JR Motorsports & Hendrick FINALLY unveiled her Nationwide team today. She'll debut at the ARCA race in Daytona, her first race is February 6. No word on how many NASCAR races she'll run-she just also signed a 3-year extension with her IRL team. GoDaddy will be the sponsor. Junior won Most Popular Driver yet again. 7th in a row. From one Busch to the other? Steve...

They said Ambrose was a 'sophomore', so he must have been racing for 2 years I'd assume. Johnson, congratz. 4 in a row, don't think anyone will top that, other than himself next year. And I believe this one of the only times a team has gone 1-2-3 in the points, Hendrick dominated this year. Shame he wasn't at the track, hope his niece is alright.

That race is exactly what i expected to see from Jimmy. As much as i hate to see it, he had one of those races of dominance.

Hahaha, oh man, I can only imagine how much the F1 drivers would end up hating Kyle.

Good. I think Keselowski's got skill, and a Sprint ride could definately help him. And, old news, Vickers shouldn't have won the race. On the restart with 40 to go, Johnson beat Vickers, the leader, to the line by half a car legnth, which is illegal. Plus he passed on the inside, which I KNOW is illegal. Johnson gets black flagged, Vickers loses the draft he had at the end of the race, runs out of fuel, and Gordon wins.

I'm glad to see Kurt win although I was rooting for Kyle to get all three wins. Even though he's not one of my favorite drivers, it still would have been pretty cool to see.

Oh no, another Tony Stewart fan to contend with I've been a Mark Martin fan for as long as I've watched NASCAR (early 90's). I really wish he'd win a championship, or even a race or two this year.

Johnson will win his 4th straight. Just another reason why the whole Chase bullshit is a fail.

Addington signed with the #2 team Since Rusty Wallace Racing is going to a toyota in 2010, they formed a technical support alliance with Joe Gibbs Racing.
