Thread: My winters project

Started 2 months ago by Whatsitallabout
I found this Alfa in a friends shed, it hadn't been in then road sence 2002. After I got it home cleaned out the rodent nests and a dead rat, drained out the old gas repaired some chewed wireing it started and with the help of a bottle of injector it's now running fairly good. The wife dosn't like red cars and the red on this one didn't look very nice so the first job is to paint it. ...

Removing the air box allows easier access to the oil filter. I dont exactly remember but the car takes a good amount of oil. At least from the pictures the paint does not look that bad. Def. not to the point where I think it would be worth going through paining it. Specially to another color. Real Alfas are red

A 2L will take 7.2 quarts with a filter change. 7.5-ish if it's a fresh after rebuild fill including the cam galleys and filter.

Stanless steel, should pollish up nicely

Sorry but the air box is on the other side of the engine, I removed the radiator overflow tank and the battery and then was able to reach the oil filter easely but what a poor desine, I had to turn the filter can on its side to get it out and oil ran all over the place. :-(

The front park/turn sigenal light lens need to be replaced. my car is a 71 spider, I haven't had any luck finding them. Will later year lenes fit and if so what years?

Alex replied 2 months ago
I have some NOS lenses that fit into the bumper, if you're referring to those?

Whatsitallabout replied 2 months ago
Yes I think that is what I want, if you email me at chuckmetteer@wildblue.net I could send you a photo of what I am lookingto replace.

Alex replied 2 months ago
Chuck, The original advert appeared on the BB here . I've sold a lot of these already (in fact, I've just checked and I only have two complete pairs left, but have extra front right lenses), and am open to negotiation on the price if that would help. Alex.

I have been welding the floor pan this evening but the fire in the stove was going out and didn't want to add more wood so I quite for tonight, will go out before bed and check and see that there is nothing burning. I was looking at the exhaust and it's in sad shap, was thinking of not replacing the catalytic converter, the car dosn't need to pass state inspection as its to old and we don't have it over here. Any thoughts...

Them ain't holes, them's part of the winterization package. You know.... foot warmers that use radiant heat from the exhaust

It does have a resonator just under the driver's side floorpan. I can see that being mistaken for a cat. It's there to make the exhaust sound/flow good, not for emissions.

Chuck, I don't have any solid amber lenses. I do have two full pairs of brand new clear/amber, though. Alex.

If its a 71 it shouldn't have a catalytic converter, just a mild steel exhaust system. If you haven't done so check out the Supplier List here: http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/anyt...lier-list.html The first three suppliers have both paper and on-line catalogs that you will find very helpful.

That is the coveted Pininfarinna 'f''. Pininfarinna is the design house responsible for the Alfa Spider styling. The 'f' badge are supposed have red and blue on them. Uri (116_Veloce) had some NOS ones for sale a while ago. I don't know if he still has any. They are not inexpensive items to replace. http://www.mtcarmelspares.com/EmblemPF.html Drew
