Thread: My tentitive plan to rebuild the Braves this offseason

Everyone obviously knows that the Braves need some big additions to their lineup in order to compete. They have 6 starting pitchers that are good enough to be in the top 3 in most other teams rotations. They have talent to trade, and a need for power. Here are the 2 trades that need to be done. 1. Javier Vasquez to the Texas Rangers for Nelson Cruz. Now before you jump all over me about ...
I hate to even reply to you, but yes Prado was great. But he isn't a power hitter, which we need, so if he had to be traded to get one I'd be all for it.
Rangers -are not- trading Cruz for a 1 year pitcher having a career year at age 32. If the Braves had a player who could hit 30+ HRs with plus defense, and had him under team control though 2012, would you trade him for a pitcher who not only is on the last year of his contract, but would in all likelihood be a 3.90ish ERA pitcher in Texas?
Offense isn't the problem in Texas, especially in the outfield. They need a big pitcher, and Vaz is the best option out there other than Halladay. So in answering, yes, I think it could happen. Texas may want to make a run THIS year and Vaz would certainly help. Plus Vaz is young enough that they could sign him to a longer contract anyway. And Texas may be thinking what others are. Nelson ...
This was Cruz' first full season. The most he'd received before was around 300 ABs. He'd also been crushing minor league pitching for 3+ years, and many analysts picked him to have a break out season in 2009. Offense may not be Texas' problem, but with Hamilton struggling Cruz is their offensive centerpiece. I don't see it happening unless it's an offer of something much better than 1 year ...
"Rangers GM Jon Daniels tells Jeff Wilson of the Dallas Morning News that he will look to improve his team by remaining active in trade talks. The Rangers are looking for relievers and a right-handed bat, but don't expect them to go after top-tier free agents." I really don't see them looking to trade Cruz if they are looking to add a RH bat because according to there GM they are already ...

Not sure, I believe I read something somewhere but can't remember where...lol that said something about them considering moving him to a corner OF spot. Like I said can't remember where I read that at though, but it didn't sound like they where thinking about trading him. I also think his trade value is down and doubt they would move him while his trade value is down alot compared to before this past season started...etc Also...
*I doubt the Rangers even want starting pitching. They have a lot of good young starters, and are already being weighed down by Milwood in the final year of his contract. If anything, they may be looking to trade a starter.* Derek Lowe and Freddie Freeman for Derek Lee. Then sign Lee to an extension. Sound good? Anybody? anybody?
My plan to rebuild the Braves: 1. The Yankees need pitching. The Braves need hitting. An obvious win-win-win is Lowe + Reyes to NYY for Teixeira. 2. With Teixeira locked up for 8 more years, move Freeman. Who needs a cheap 1B? The Mets. Freeman + Diory Hernandez to the Mets for Beltran. 3. The Phillies could use a catcher and a 3B. So David Ross + Prado to the Phillies for Utley. 4. The Braves are down on KJ, the Cards are down on Ludwick....
I doubt the Rangers even want starting pitching. They have a lot of good young starters, and are already being weighed down by Milwood in the final year of his contract. If anything, they may be looking to trade a starter. Furthermore, they probably can't add any payroll due to ownership problems, so Vazquez's $11.5 is likely out of the question. Lastly, Vazquez would have no desire to go to the AL and one of the better...
I think Cruz is far more of a risk than Javy. Plus, Texas is broke. Our team is built on starting pitching, and the best approach is to support the strength. By detracting a lot of the strength, we hurt ourselves. The best angle is to go for defense, bat and then bullpen. We can keep Javy. We don't need the offense that our rival's have, because we will have a better run-prevention system. Also, we do have real talent on the...
