Thread: My "homebrew" mounted LED light, and modified flashight.

Started 1 year, 3 months ago by ghettocruiser
Hey all. Well...I was bored, so I decided to try something. Last week while walking around at sears I spotted a small LED light. You could "test" it in the package, and it seemed really potent. And best of all, $7.99. So I grabbed it. Its VERY bright for its size and price. It doesnt throw a beam super far, but its blinding otherwise. It even came with 4 replacement batteries which I thought was ...

If it works then you did good. Always better then having to hold a light in your hand and gun in the other.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Like I said....its no $200 set up. But I was really impressed with how much light that little sucker put out. And, for $20, it serves its purpose. Doesnt fit any holsters anymore tho. haha. Ill post the ebay link... but BE WARNED. It takes a lot of metal removal to get that sucker in there. A dremel is highly recommended. I was going to try to use a 5/8" ...

Have you tried firing the XD with it on yet? The recoil could to bad things to the light, but it should be fine with the LED....I wouldn't trust it til i tried it though.

hey if you want the brightness of the bulbs to show the difference. set your camera to manual and make sure that for both picks you keep the same setting

Yeah I tried messing with the camera. But Im not a camera guy. I got the best results on AUTO with the flash shut off and it on timer. Maybe Ill try again later, since the weather sucks and Ill be bored again tonight. I havent fired the gun yet with it on there. It should be fine... It seems well built. I doubt its any worse than some of the more expensive lights as far as durability....

...a word to the wise.....I'm looking for a small flashlight I can put on my pistol, and saw the article about converting the everready yellow into a krypton with cr123's........it worked great, but started over heating the reflector......and friend at work built one too and had the same problem, the krypton bulb makes the reflector chernobyl (melt down)...now, it is like a piece of the sun, and if we could find a metal reflector and...
