I've had Blu-ray Multi-region capability for around a year now and I was wondering who else had it? If so, what equipment do you have? And what prompted you to get it?
I personally have a Multi-region Panasonic DMP BD35 and I wanted the ability to watch the Criterion Collection.
Well, I've had two players for my multi-region kicks (a US PS3 and UK Sony BD player) for a couple of years now.
But since I bought a UK PS3 Slim to replace the US PS3, I needed to get me a proper multi-region player. I tried to mod a BD35 myself and ****** it up royally (only cost me £80 though), so after that I bought a properly modded BD35. Lovely player.
i have the oppo bdp83 from the states, with a multiregion mod and its fab. The main reason i went for the oppo was the make great dvd players so i knew the bluray player would be good and also it loads discs very quick and they are very quick in getting firmware updates out as well for any problem discs.
I used to have a separate region a and region b player, but wanted a single player so ...
I would have the oppo but the MR firmware is usually a little behind the mainstream firmware and also technically invalidates your warranty.
I just got the Aldi one to take with me to the US to replace my Sony S550 Region B Player. The Aldi one is a re-badged Momitsu with a custom image on the firmware but still multi region from remote change for both DVD and BD. The main reason I got it was ...

i also have the pre-modded panasonic BD35, and very happy with it so far. the mod took the first firmware update in its stride, as promised, with no loss of functionality.
that said, i wish the mod disabled PUOPs as the inability to go straight to the content i have already paid for drives me insane...
"you wouldn't steal a car!"
well... i might if i had to watch a 40-second commercial ...
I went to my local Sevenoaks and asked if they sold multi-region Blu-Ray decks. I was told there was no call for them as all Blu-Ray discs were multi-region. When I explained that some Blu-Ray discs would only play on US Blu-Ray players, the sales line then became something along it being a legal issue.
Hoping to soften the patter, I said that I could buy for example an Oppo 83 on-line ...

There is no hyperbole about it, more expensive components aren't used for the fun of it, they are used because they can give better results other wise no would ever buy anything other then the cheapest DVD/Blu ray/CD Player. But back on track I would love a multi region Blu ray seeing as so many titles, even back catalogue ones, are now being coded. But after having shelled out for a deck last Christmas I can't justify getting...
It's rumoured that the new Aldi player will be a version of the Momitsu BDP-799 . That would be logical since the Tevion is essentially the Momitsu BDP-899. It has a different chunkier, yet more rugged design (though looks uglier IMO) plus a few less connectivity options. Robert
