Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by Omniscience
Sup guys, Just want to ask about some tips and opinions regarding the correct form and execution of a Muay Thai Roundkick because some instructors always insist that the my other foot should always be planted on the ground and should not be tiptoe during the kick, But when I am watching Yodsaenklai Fairtex, Buakaw Por. Pramuk, Samkor and other Pro Nak Muays they do the tiptoe thingy ...

I always come up on the ball of my foot as I pivot for all kicks...low, mid and high. Planting the foot to the ground would hinder how far you can tilt back to get your kick even higher. But, having said that, everyone has their own way of doing things...so I'm not saying planting your foot is wrong or that it wont work, but I personally always like to pivot up on the ball of my foot....

If your instructor is telling you to throw a Thai style round kick with your planted foot flat on the floor, quit that gym immediately. They don't know what they are talking about. You're SUPPOSED to get up on the ball of your foot and pivot. You can't pivot flat footed, unless you want to blow out your knee.

Your standing leg should always be on the ball of your foot, never flat footed for any kick.

Thanks for the response guys. Really learned a lot especially about the details in pivoting on the ball of the foot.
