Thread: Motorcycle enthusiasts: what is the point of a motorcycle with really tall handlebars?

Started 2 months, 3 weeks ago by bbernardini
I saw a large group of motorcyclists riding down the highway this afternoon, and quite a few of them had the ridiculously high handlebars. They just look incredibly uncomfortable. Does that design serve any particular purpose, or is it just for the looks? var addthis_pub = 'du_addthis';

But then, I've always greatly underestimated the undisputed bad-assedness involved in sitting on one's ample backside and flexing one's wrist. There's something very . . . I don't know what it's supposed to be, but be assured it's very something.

A poser however, would probably say they look really 'cool'. Meh. I have mini apes on mine. Which is more a description of style, they don't elevate my hands above my shoulders, just to about mid chest height and I find them very comfortable on long journeys, and by that I mean a 4000 mile round trip to Las Vegas from Louisiana. NOT a bar on the other side of town. When you elevate your hands ...

but seem pointless. They don't seem like they'd be any more uncomfortable than the low handlebars on many sport bikes today. It's like riding while holding yourself at the top of a push-up. ("Front-leaning rest position", as my drill-sergeant liked to call it) But, if you have a bike, you can do what you want with it. Some exhaust systems are a lot more annoying than funny handlebars.

I knew that.

but usually by the ones who are not sure if they like motorcycles, or noise, or those what cannot tell the difference (atwixt a motorcycle, and noise). dc
