Thread: Minor error on 5.4 update

Started 3 weeks, 6 days ago by richard_chapman
The last few kernel updates - I have received this apparently inocuous error during the cleanup phase: Error! The module r8168 8.005.00-1 is not currently installed. This module is not currently ACTIVE for kernel 2.6.18-128.1.10.el5 (x86_64). rmdir: /lib/modules/2.6.18-128.1.10.el5/updates/dkms: No such file or directory I get a similar error on the console output each boot. I think this is ...

Thank for the reply. I know and see the installation method in the official document, but I want to install like the way I show in my previous post. Can anyone guide me? Thanks again!

gerald_clark replied 3 months, 1 week ago
I would ask the person who wrote the guide that doesn't work.

Hi AlanJBartlett, It is really a good idea, i will try that, but is there really a way of unistalling it? it was a kind of requirement and learning at the same time. if there is a command for uninstalling let me know, ;) Thanks once again Majorlen

Hi again, After apply the above commands, this are the errors i got: [ root@localhost ~]# yum grouplist | more Loading "installonlyn" plugin Setting up Group Process Setting up repositories Error: Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: extras Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=5&arch=i386& repo=extras error was [Errno 4] IOError: [ root@localhost ~]# yum ...

With reference to your initial question (is there a way of performing an un-install), I'm not aware of any universal command to achieve that end. Obviously, as you have already mentioned, with real hardware you could just wipe the disk(s). As you have CentOS running as a guest in a VM, why not just consider deleting the VM from the host system? Regarding your yum issue, I assume that ...

Glad we could help. To give credit where credit is due, I believe toracat was the original source of my information.

Hello and thanks for helping me out! I did try and enable dual-head support, but it doesn't seem to work. I check the box "use dual head" and configure the monitor type to LCD Panel 1920x1080. The resolution drop down has a maximum resolution of 1680x1050 however... and I still get both monitors (laptop+external) active and don't seem to be able to switch to only the external one. Am I still ...

pschaff, toracat thanx a lot! I`ve read some doc`s and understand that it`s better to use packages from additional CentOS provided repositories, but it`s still a big question for me - if I can find package with necessary functionality only in 3rd party repositories - may be it`s better to rebuild package by myself? Am I right?

The .torrent file is not the file to burn to a DVD. You use the .torrent file along with a bittorrent client to download the .iso file. It is the .iso file that you burn to the DVD.

milosb is right. You will get that error if you run yum installgroup "Development Tools" on a CentOS-5.3 system. If you update to CentOS 5.4 first, it should run smoothly.

Did you check the md5sum of the iso files? Reburn cd1 at a slower speed.

If you go to http://www.google.com and put this in as the search term: convert rhel to centos ... you'll get about 30,000 hits.

Automounting a USB thumb drive
Published (2009-11-30 19:29:00)
Okay, it sounds like /etc/fstab is not the right file to configure auto-mounting of a USB thumb drive. Right? So, let me change the question. I would like my CentOS box to automatically mount my USB thumb drive at a specific location (based on the filesystem label) whenever I insert the USB drive into my PC. What is the best and/or easiest way to do this? Should I be modifying /etc/auto.master or /etc//etc/auto.misc, or what? Surely this must...

Three questions: 1. Where are you trying to install this from (media or CentOS repository)? 2. Why don't you update to 5.4 before installing this package group? 3. Have you tried cleaning yum metadata with: # yum clean metadata or # yum clean all and then installing package group?

Thanks Alan.. FYI: It looks to me like the duplicate kmod versions are probably OK - and required as dependencies by different kernel versions. Is that what this looks like to you?
