I wasn't sure how to title the thread, but a while ago I asked about 1911's because every few months I get the urge to buy one but something always stops me.
Well I got another urge tonight...
I was told that my WWII 1911 will feel pretty similar to modern mil-spec guns, and to get the true feel of what 1911's are all about I should try one of the fancier/custom/hussied-up ...
Checkout a Springfield "loaded" model. That's a great entry level 1911 with all of the custom touches that alot of people prefer. You cant beat them for the price.

Not a bad looking piece. I do think the Desert Warrior from Kimber LOOKS better and I like the rail, but I...
Nice looking gun. Under $1000 as well...but I'm curious if there are other guns in the "Under $1,000" group for entry level non-mil-spec 1911's as well?
I'm still loving the way this Desert Warrior looks. Also like to look of the TRP.
Thanks!

IMHO, the best 1911 you will find under $1000 would be a used Dan Wesson Cbob. I have owned Springers, Kimbers, and fired a few Colts. The Cbob blows has been my favorite of them all.
I like the Springfield 1911 pistols. I have a Mil-Spec and a S/S loaded. I believe the S/S loaded, is the "tightest" fitting of any 1911 that I've ever field stripped. I don't claim to be a good source of pistol prices now. I can't believe how much the prices have jumped since last year. The Springfield Mil-Spec is the most reasonably priced & good quality 1911, on the market now, I think. ...
I look through the "previously owned" gun racks and the classified sections of your newspaper. Most times you won't find a bargain, sometimes you will. Being so common, there are undoubtedly 1911s in your market.

Well again I already have the WWII Ithaca. But I was told that the mil-spec's don't give you a true taste of what the more tricked out 1911's are all about. Thanks! -Emt1581

I think Springfield has caused some measure of confusion, with their model designations. What they call a Mil-Spec really isn't, it's just that simple. It has better sights, a lowered and flared ejection port and mine came with a set of black plastic grips and nice wood grips with the crossed cannons. The Springfield G.I. is their least expensive gun and is as close as you can get to a real Govt. Model, IMO. It's the version...

Thanks! -Emt1581 Fit, function and finish. The S&W's are also very good in my experience, although not a "traditional"1911 due to the external extractor. I'm just a big...
Howdy, I looked at a Springfield something or another at a gun shop a couple of days ago aand it was a little better than a mil-spec gun. Better sights, still fixed, and did have an arched MS housing. It was something like $619.00 Paul
