I'd think anyone skilled enough to download and use Firefox would also have add-ins installed that provide additional security. Which add-ins would you recommend for security, and how does Firefox score when so configured? As is, this test doesn't tell us much. And this article should point that out.

So I only skimmed through this article, but which is better, IE8 blocking more websites that could contain malicious code... or the code not working in Firefox/Chrome/etc.? I have used IE7&8, Chrome 2&3, Firefox 2+, and Safari 3+... and out of all of them I would have to say IE is the easiest to get "tricked" into doing something with. Also, every time I have ...

My understanding is that they were basically downloading viruses by clicking a link and seeing if the browser downloaded it. If this is true, I like the browsers with the worst ratings. Why? Because they obviously don't tamper with my downloads. I don't care if I'm downloading a virus. Maybe I want to so I can study it. If you want safety from dope traps, ...

The #1 factor in malware infestations is the operator. Don't go to porn or warez sites, and your odds of getting infected drop drastically.
Install the HOSTS file available at http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm cuts the odds even more.
Both of these work equally well with any browser.

@daniel142005:
I couldn't have said it better.
I think too many people have become burned by IE letting malware into their computers. The majority of computers I've fixed have been directly related to malware introduced by an IE vulnerability. I'm no Firefox fanboy, but I can honestly say that I and many others use it consistently without having our ...

What anti-virus was used? Sounds like the test was done with unprotected computers.
I don't expect the browser to protect me. That's why I run an anti-virus and other software, not to mention hardware.

I have used both Firefox 3.5.2 and IE8. And I really do like IE8, as well as I like Firefox. But the problem I have with IE8 is that it's the 'only' browser that when you open a tab, in the browser, then opens a 'full' and 'new' 'additional' copy of the browser on your computer.
So, with IE8, if you have 5 tabs open, you then have 5 full copies of IE8 open ...

The very fact that this supposedly unbiased report was bought and paid-for by Microsoft speaks for itself. Has anyone noticed that in certain automotive magazines, the manufacturers with the most paid ad pages seem to always get lavishly favorable editorial opinions and test reviews?
Does anyone believe that this NSS company would ever get another ...

Each of us believing we have the divine insight to make our beliefs the...
( + I certainly understand the need for stability with regard to a particular crashing website on any particular tab. Yet the issue is that when you look at the size that IE 8 is taking up with regard to system resources. It is almost 3 1/2 times greater than IE 7 or Firefox. And that I believe is one of the big issues, because if you run IE 8 for any period of time. It becomes so system intensive that it begins to compromise other services. I...
( That's my general take on things, as well, Kahuna... that PC World is a pretty well-trusted and reasonably unbiased source of general computer information, whether Windows, Mac, Linux or whatever. When I said "all the posters on this site," I didn't mean to imply that every poster on this site seems to think PC World is Mac-Centric, rather that every time PC World posts an article that seems favorable to Apple or its...
( laez wrote: IE 8 uses separate processes for each tab for stability. If you have a web page that crashes, you can force quit that tab only while keeping your remaining ones open. Google Chrome uses this method as well. I suppose that's one way to handle it. I just force close Firefox and reload it, minus the window that crashed. This happens so rarely that it hasn't been an annoyance. , )
( smartscreen is almost worthless. When I report phishing sites which need to be blocked in minutes of hours, Netcraft blocks them in minutes, Firefox shortly after \(powered by Google\), for some reason Opera takes up to a few hours even though they are supposedly powered by Netcraft - they are also the only one of the three browsers without an easy way to report a site, which the site remains unblocked by MS sometimes a DAY later by which...

( Points missed in the article: \(1\) Bare-bones IE8 has no add-ons available to enhance security. Chrome also has no security add-ons. Firefox has dozens of them, the most effective of which are NoFlash, Better Privacy, NoScript, and AdBlock Plus \(unless Super AdBlocker is a standard plug-in in Firefox 3.5 -- I don't recall how it got into my copies, but I do use Super Antispyware Free\). And don't get me started about Active X --...
