I have a 4 foot tank and was wondering if there are any cheapish metal halide lights and how to use them.

im in the same boat as you... at the moment i only have 4 ts globes but with no coral. metal halide lamps can get very costly. i would try ebay as a starter but im not sure if there is any on there. you may just want to also check out a hydroponics center as well as they will have some pretty strong lighting systems in there that mimic the sun. i have yet to check out my local "the glow room" ...

Metal halides are very costly to purchase and to run. They also increase the tanks temp making the chillers something that might be needed and these are very costly too. Unless u are planning on getting corals that need high amounts of wattage and ur ok with spending anywhere from 350 upwards to 1000 dollars on lights then it's not really a neccesity

Look for local marine groups Look up your area and type in "marine group" or "aquarium " or something and you may be able to find some cheap used ones. If you happen to find one that has a broken balast then your going to need to search up how to install a new balast. If you have a 4 foot tank and its short, then you can go with T5's. You can keep anything you would under MH's under. Even clams. ...
