Thread: Mesh grill feeler.

Started 1 year, 2 months ago by Kiowapilot
NEWEST, NEWEST UPDATE!!!! I have re-designed the grills little. They extend to far the the back of the car and they rest on the seal for the boot. I cut away the extra material so it does not touch the seal and placed plugs in the four back holes. I have added a little material to the rest of the grill to prevent the edges from being seen at all for a cleaner look. Instead of using the ...

Keep in mind that these are already available here. BBB Motors, LLC Bring them in lighter weight or lower cost or both.

Kiowapilot replied 1 year, 2 months ago
The cost is what turned me away from BBB motors.

When you say a full set are you talking grill, hood and engine cover? Nine parts in all?

Kiowapilot replied 1 year, 2 months ago
Yup. Full set. Everything needed and reversable. No mods will be needed to your car.

Chris Mackey replied 1 year, 2 months ago
Interested.

Kiowapilot replied 1 year, 2 months ago
Well then I guess I will get to work. I am thinking that I am going to do the engine cover first. Time to go shopping.

madden replied 1 year, 2 months ago

Progress??????..... Let's just say that 12-14 hour work days are kinda getting in the way. It is so frustrating because I know that once I get these done my 12 hour days are going to quickly become 16 hour days. I have worked on them and they are getting closer but what is kicking my ass right now is getting the the perfect fit for the frame. I want it to ride within 1/16" of the body for a REALLY clean OEM look. I have a feeling...

ha ha that is the same style grills i tried with the mounting points and folded oil cooler grills, i couldnt get it perfect and ended up just cutting up the clam. Your middle opening looks awesome, but the oil cooler grills look kinda iffy. That seems to be your only/best option if you dont want to cut into the clam or remove it

I got the engine grills. Due to some time constraints, I can't get them installed for a couple of days. Kiowapilot did message me and say that he found that the tape was way too loose and tended to come off due to the heat and that I should heat up the tape and press the adhesive sides together through the mesh. I did that, and I like the look. I stretched the tape down slightly for a "tighter" almost shrink-wrapped look...

Currently I have so much on my plate right now trying to figure out the rest of the car that I dont have the time or money to re-design the engine...

Ok, here are my promised installation notes: Total installation time, including removing/reinstalling the engine cover was just about 3 hours: 1) 10 minutes to remove the cover 2) 10 minutes to remove (and break into pieces) the stock slats. I have no idea how you would remove the brittle things otherwise. Replacement cost for all four pieces is about $160 (source: LotusGarage). 3) 40 minutes to use a hair dryer / peel back / remove all the...
