They're often a waste - most of the time you've outlevelled them or they force you to equip something you'd never equip. Sadly, the Men of Bree rep weapons are pretty useless... for instance, what's with the LM staff needing discipline? Every LM's favorite trait? :/ If only they had decent skins so they could be used for RP, but they fail even at that.
