Thread: Medical Benefits - loose circ?

Started 2 months ago by annkh
Baby boys circumcised today are more likely to have a "loose" circumcision - one that takes off less foreskin than was the norm in the past. The reason for this is the realization that cutting off too much was causing problems for adult men - painful erections, unnatural curvature of the penis, etc. A loose circumcision errs on the side of caution - better to cut less than more, so the boy has ...

This topic is something that interests me very much because I do believe that my younger son has a loose circ.  He definitely did have issues in his first year of the remaining foreskin readhering to the glans and the doctor had to gently pull it away at one appointment.  I look at both my boys in the bathtub and there is definitely more glans showing on my older boy than on my younger boy. ...

Ann, since infant circumcision is not only alien to me but also anathema, I'm more inclined to question the motives of American doctors who choose to practice loose circumcisions. Perhaps the very fact that nature does its utmost to re-adhere the remains of a foreskin, pricks a subconscious awareness that what they are doing is somehow wrong? Or do they close their minds to nature's ...

"I've come to hope that maybe, just maybe with a loose circ he will retain *some* of the function of a full foreskin and not lose it all.  That maybe at least his glans will retain more of the original sensitivity that it was supposed to have." I do hope so, Traci.  You say your youngest son's adhesions were 'gently' pulled away. Was that incrementally - a little at a time? Did it hurt him ...

<<I do hope so, Traci.  You say your youngest son's adhesions were 'gently' pulled away. Was that incrementally - a little at a time? Did it hurt him or give him some momentary discomfort?>> It was in one doctor's office visit.  It was a process.  Alex was laying down on the table.  The doctor gently, a little bit at a time, pulled the skin away from the glans.  It was like he was trying to ...

In  reading ahead Traci your interpretation of the difference in the amount of foreskin/sheath removed has a lot of merit. The change in doctors techniques are also influenced by reports/complaints of problems caused by to much removed. Alex will definitely have a larger area of sensitivity then his brother and his glans will have much if not all of the glans lubricated and protected. That is...

Thank you for the input. Likely singing to the choir but good lyrics are always worth hearing again. Agreed - and even more so because you never know who is listening on the sidelines ;)

Sounds like a good case to let the boy decide to be cut (or not) when he is an adult.... then it can be exactly what makes sense to him.... intact, loose circ, tight circ, whatever. Jessica Edited 10/28/2009 10:54 am ET by jessjgh1

"This made sense to me. I once participated in a foreskin restoration forum and it was quite common for the men to report that they had gained as much as 1" in extra penile length during the restoration process. This meant that this inch was with held in the body and it had to put pressure on something and the prostate gland was the obvious point. The undulations of the sexual act was ...

"Is there a way to improve this situation with restoring? I have an (american) friend whose husband is in this situation and they have difficulties because of it." A tight circumcision may not be the entire problem but may be contributory. In young men, high testosterone levels may be a contributing factor.  Testosterone feeds the sex drive causing the man to become sexually excited ...

Hi again, Mellissa, and thank you for your perceptive response... Before I read any subsequent replies to you, I want to say this: You seem to?contemplate and phrase your comments in such a similar way to me, it's rather like deja vu ! I cannot speak as a fellow American, nor have I ever visited the U.S. (more's the pity), but your last sentence points?to the one matter that I believe?may be the biggest stumbling block towards an...

Frank, I'm not speaking of typical parents, I'm speaking of the ones who've been convinced that babies NEED to SSTN, that it's good for them, in their best interests, etc. The parents who have not been misled do tend to be very aware of and responsive to nighttime needs.

In regard to holding babies and responding to their cries, I've had a couple of experiences this year that tells me holding and comforting babies is vitally important to their development and ability to relate to others. There is a feral mom cat in my neighborhood that has decided my house is a perfect place to have her babies.? I've discovered the babies at about 5 weeks old and have taken them to tame them and find loving homes...

Christopher~ I find it almost impossible to comprehend any parent viewing the bloody, painful results of circumcision as 'best' or 'necessary' - let alone linking it with common issues parents experience with their infants the world over. On the surface (and even deeper, lol) I do agree with you.? However, I can understand how parents have been conditioned to not view circumcision as, well, TORTURE.? The societal view is...

Welcome to the Board!? I hope you decide to stick around and continue to debate with us. <<One of my biggest fears is that one or both of my sons will take me to the mat over the fact that I allowed doctor's to amputate part of their penis.>> I can relate to this sentiment all too well.? I too ignorantly chose to have both my sons circumcised and now very much regret that decision.? I fear too someday that they will come to...

When I was a new mother (I was 18), I was told the typical "don't hold too much or baby will get spoiled" and "let her cry through the night, she'll learn to go to sleep," etc....so I had to harden my heart in small ways to accomodate certain circumstances. This is such a perfect example of how we American are so out of touch with our instincts. We are overweight because we eat when the clock tells us to eat -...

Hi Christopher, and thank you! I could not agree with you more. One of my biggest fears is that one or both of my sons will take me to the mat over the fact that I allowed doctor's to amputate part of their penis. It's a scary prospect, but one that I have to face because of my bad decision making. I don't think ignorance is an excuse and that's the only thing I'll really be able to offer my boys. I think that in...
