Anyone know what their current status is? I've seen a few articles that they are hurting for law enforcement throughout the whole state. Anyone know how true this is?

While the staties are def looking to hire more folks because of retirements and what not don't count on an academy running anytime soon because of the absolute toolbag of a Gov. we have here in MA

budget cuts all around.........

Plus they haven't hired in about 7 years and they are expecting a record turn out for this test. Plus almost everyone who wants to be a cop in this state wants to be a trooper, even officers who are already certified. Tons of competition.

competition isn't always so bad, but good luck none the less!

The state budget is a mess, there wont be another academy class for atleast another 2-3 years. The last test was in 2001. This test was nothing but a money maker for the state.

Hopefully, they will get the budget in order. We can never have enough cops.

The last test for the MSP only was in 2002 and 3 classes of about 450 total were hired. The last Civil Service test in April 09 was combined with the Trooper exam with approximately 20,000 test takers. Of that group it's unknown how many checked "Trooper" as one of their options, but it's safe to say that most probably did. The MSP is about 250 short of its typical manning numbers, and ...

Unless you are in one of the wealthy towns, hiring will be sporadic at best in this budget cycle. As much as I disagree with all of this stimulus business, that may be the only hope for anyone being hired this year in Massachusetts. I understand nation wide there is $3 billion in requests for for $1 billion in CopsFAST grants.

Go state if you can... The Governor just signed a new bill that changes the retirement for us locals. The state somehow is not affected. The state cut the Quinn Bill which is extra pay for your education. The state is not affected. They dont have the "Quinn" bill so they keep their money. The Governor screwed with our details. Again the State is not affected because all of ...

The reason I'm asking is because my girlfriend might be going to grad school in Boston, definitely doesn't seem like an ideal area for employment based on the responses. What are the names of some places in NH and RI (or Vermont)? It's a little trouble trying to find places with departments in regions that are a reasonable commute having been to the region all of one time in my life for two days

Pretty much if you were applying to be a Trooper here you will have to do the whole academy over again...as far as cities and towns go they may and I mean MAY...take your academy....that would be up to the MPTC aka the Municipal Police Training Committee..I do know of one officer from Florida that works for a smaller town here and they took his academy although I had heard they weren't crazy about doing it. Mass is one of those wonderful...
