For good beaches with clear waters the east coast islands are your best bet. Redang, Perhentians and Tioman are the best choices with Tioman being the closest. There used to be a ferry that ran from Singapore to Tioman but no idea if it still runs now as I am talking a few years ago. We were on Langkawi a couple of years ago in March and found the water on the very lovely bay we were on was very clear. It was a private beach and the swimming and snorkeling was excellent. Nice white sand. Very quiet. It was our paradise.

With a one year old your best option is to fly with Berjaya Air to Redang, especially if you care about white sand and crystal clear water. Tioman does not have great beaches, Langkawi has no clear water and the beaches are not too impressive, Perhentian and the other east coast islands require boat trips to get there. Consider staying on this bay: http://www.molon.de/galleries/Malaysia/...

I'm a Tioman fan - been several times and got a fair bit of info/pix might help you here I also like the Perhentians, but yep, access is more of a hassle. I haven't a page because it's some years since I visited. Hope to rectify this next June or July.
