Makayla had hydrotherapy last Saturday and was tired and sore and weak on Saturday and Sunday, which I completely expected. But her weakness has continued all week, which I still thought was normal. But tonight she had a scary incident that has me utterly freaked out and will require a vet visit tomorrow. She came in the kitchen when I got home around 7 tonight to say hi to me. She ...
Rachel, It really sounds like more of a spinal problem then hips. Chyna has been having similar episodes lately. Right before we left for Pugfest, she had an episode that lasted over 45 minutes where she could not walk. Her leg become very rigid and stick straight up as if she is trying to scratch her ears or face at the same time with both legs. It has happened the past three ...
gosh, how scary. Poor Makayla. Does she seem like she is in pain when this happens? I wonder if she has hip dysplasia? Probably a stupid question as your vet probably already checked for that. Please let us know how the vet appointment goes. and give her some extra hugs and kisses from us here in Maine. I hope you can figure it out.
We went to the vet today, explained what's going on. He feels yesterday's episodes were not caused by the hips - most likely something in the back, bulging disk, pinched nerve, etc. She does have a delayed response when he flips her back feet over - she does correct them, but there's a delay in her response. He said at this point, the next thing to do diagnostically would be a ...
I would want to know more. It seems like a pretty severe reaction to whatever is wrong and I would not be comfortable with waiting and not knowing what it is. Or if she is in lots of pain? How is she acting when she is not having an episode?
I would be headed to Dr Strickfadden on the next bus. The hydro might have aggravacated things. She needs some serious crate time to rest it. Is she on anti inflamitorys?? Catching this stuff early can make a big difference. I tell you , Hannah is sooo much better after her 3 treatments. give Kayla a big kiss for me M
Rachel, Chyna's problems started when she would drop a poop ball every now and then. It wasn't daily, and for weeks I thought it was Pugsly since his health was declining. Then, one day in the bathroom she was walking, and I saw her drop the turd. It wasn't long after that when I noticed her walk wasn't quite right. Her gait continued to get worse, and I noticed she was no longer ...
Leslye, that was precisely what I wanted to know. I've been struggling all day with whether I should take her to UW Madison to see a neurologist. And I'd like to, but I'm sure they'll recommend an MRI or myleogram. And honestly, I doubt I'd put her through any sort of surgery like that - she's not a crate dog. Unlike Grace who did amazingly well on crate rest after LP surgery, ...
Rachel, I think you already know what to do. I would definitely try the acupuncture. Mickey has had 2 bad neck/back injuries over the last year and 1 less severe about 2 weeks ago. I have been looking into what I can do for him and I am ASTOUNDED by what I have learned from the vet here who does acupuncture. I think you are right to try that route before doing anything invasive like...
Quote from: crazypugmom on Yesterday at 06:07:43 PM Rachel, I didn't mean to sound like they were not good, but you know that I can't help being a worry wart! Leslye, I didn't take it that way at all, don't worry. It's very easy, especially in emergency situations when we're looking for answers under serious stress, to just implicitly trust vets. I try not to do...
oh, boy, am I sorry. I can imagine how frustrated you must be. The not knowing is terrible. Continued prayers sent for you all and some extra kisses for Makayla. She is so beautiful!
Kayla looks tired but I can imagine ohhhh so glad to be home. This is a hard position to be in and one that everyone dreads. No answers. I hope that she does well with her rest program and that the appointment is soon so you can get your answers. Talk to you soon M
Oh Rachel, How very frustrating for you! Poor baby girl looks so sad. I hope the further tests will reveal something fixable so she can get on with being a puggy.
Rachael, I would call the holistic person back with the results that you've gotten. She might now do the acupuncture and it could help a great deal!!! Am thinking of you both!
Oh Rach, I am in tears sitting here at my desk. I so wish this wasn't the answer and she wouldn't have to go through a surgery. The good thing is that is sounds very fixable and something that will make a huge difference. I wouldn't wait either, not after seeing her in those videos. I will be thinking of you both and saying tons of prayers!!!
They certainly gave you enough options of what it could be. I am praying for her that it is something that can diagnosed and fixed. If you feel her neck and/or back does it feel hard anywhere? I wouldnt let her use the stairs or jump on anything(I know how hard that is) no running either. With the medicine she may start feeling better but she really isnt, know what I mean.
