Thread: Maine vote

Started 1 month, 1 week ago by JEStraveler
Feeling sad about the Maine vote. I simply do not understand the movement against gay marriage. How does this hurt anyone? I totally understand that many people feel marriage is a sacred religious rite, however, no one is suggesting that churches have to perform marriages. Anyone else feel this way?

Katie hit the nail on the head. It's all about educating yourself ahead to understand what your looking at. Not for everyone but if you're going to travel half way around the world to look at something you should have somewhat of a clue. There's something very cool about seeing something live that you've seen hundreds of times in pictures. It is unfortunate that we're shuttled along too ...

While I wouldn't say that Stonehenge and the Coliseum were the highlights of our trips to England and Rome, I'm really glad that we saw them. These threads often surprise me. California is overrated? In my view point, Yosemite and San Francisco are pretty amazing places. I seem to be in the minority about the Mona Lisa. I had heard all about how small the painting was, and about the ...

PM, I'm sorry you have been feeling so bad and that the snotball has grown. I hope your surgery goes as planned and that you get rid of that snotball for good on Friday. I will be praying for an easy surgery and a very speedy recovery for you. Sending big hugs your way!

Well Dave Barry always suggested giving the baby to a flight attendant and telling them she wants a tour of the cockpit. He also said babies should only be taken to restaurants on "easy-going deaf people's night", so maybe you can request being put on a flight with that group. If for some reason you don't find his advice all that helpful, MY advice is, as seems to be the general consensus,...

Although it's getting a bit close, I'm wondering if you can start altering her sleep schedule now. Not sure how long the flight is or what time of the day but if you start getting her to sleep earlier or later you may be able to have her in her sleep time zone when flying. Perhaps if you're tired and nap a bit she may feel more relaxed if your not so anxious. Babies totally sense your anxiety...

...... Or you could leave her at home.

Just wanted to say don't worry. It will bother you more than it will bother others. All you can do is give her a bottle or your breast and go with the flow. Most people love babies, and when they cry - like others have said, they are just glad they are not the ones trying to soothe her. I bet she is a doll!!!

"A Medicare patient isn't nearly as lucrative as one that is privately insured." Not always so, as a board member of a non-profit VNA, I'll tell you Medicare reimbursements are greater than either private insurance or Medicaid. It is Medicare reimbursements that keep many VNAs solvent and agencies fight for Medicare business.

Like ncounty, I'm getting kinder and more laid-back as I get older. Things that might have aggravated me 20 years ago to seem insignificant now. <<And I disagree that only guys who are Andy Rooney's ae think this way. jj5 My husband is turning 45, and if I asked him what age group of women he most often checks out, I am confident he would not say 40-year olds. (Just as if you asked me ...

That is something I worry about cw, I want to offer to help out, and by asking what can I do often ends up with the person actually never calling. Most people don't want to have to be in a position to ask for help. I just never really know what to offer. I guess the important thing is to listen carefully and pick up on clues. I just spoke to a friend who lost her mother. She said she just wanted to be in bed and feel sorry for herself...

Hello LCBoniti, I sure hope to be at the Santa Fe GTG..I will "know" who you are! Fodorites are so welcoming to anyone and everyone, you will have a wonderful time in such a beautiful setting. And I just wanted to add that I have never experienced any political conversations at any GTG that I have attended which is a good thing.

I saw a political commentator speaking about the election, and he said, "We've reached a point in history where the best candidate doesn't have to lie about who she is." Somewhat true. There is an article in today's Times about advertising and PR firms who specialize in defeating gay marriage legislation. They are either located or fronted in California. They were instrumental in defeating the proposal in Maine last...

British Children Have the Best...
Published (2009-12-13 13:16:00)
From the article: Britain's children (along with Germany's) have the healthiest teeth, if not the straighest or whitest in later life. Considering some of the cr@p people feed their children, it doesn't surprise me that, "American adults are renowned for having perfect sets of pearly whites, but each child has one decayed or missing tooth."
