Thread: Magnum Research single action in 22 hornet for varmint hunting sidearm?

Been looking for a suitable varmint killing sidearm for a while. What do ya think?

Hmm....not sure I would go that route personally. A .22 Hornet rifle would be fun if you mind shot placement and distance (talking about yotes) but coming out of a 6-8" barrel your gonna lose a lot of velocity and energy. I carry either my .357 or my .45 while yote hunting in case I call in something a bit bigger and meaner then a yote...not to hunt with. Take care,Stan

I'm with Stan here. Don't aim for the same bullet type out of a sidearm that you have for your primary hunting firearm. I'm also with Stan on the selection of calibers. Go for wide slugs in your sidearm. Also, I've recently been considering carrying two sidearms. A revolver with snakeshot, and a Glock 21 with heavy combat loads. I use a MKIII for coyotes to put them down for good at close range. It is very effective.

my XD40 that I carried with me and my glock before the xd40 havent even seen ONE single shot during a hunt. On the other hand, my MKIII 22/45 have brought down plenty of grey squarrels!
