Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by Freeborn61
Which do you value more from the two: Freedom or Equality? Question inspired by 2D today!!!xxx Some people value freedom most; others value equality most. I value freedom most so I tend to the right. ~2Damnold4this

If all men are created equal, then all men... yes, and women... should enjoy freedom EQUALLY. Sadly, this is not yet the case. Is it?

Freedom. We can all be free, and we can be equal under the law as noted above. But if we try to enforce equality of outcome we will all just end up being equally miserable (except for the ruling elite of "philosopher-kings" of course).

Often a point of confusion is our constitutional rights to equality "UNDER THE LAW". It does not mean everyone is equal in every aspect of life. It does not mean everyone is entitled to anything beyond equal application of the law . Exactly

I'm not saying one or the other is bad. I am saying that some people value one more than the other. I find freedom more valuable than equality. A single tiered health care system might be an example of equality that some would like more than freedom.

Equality in health care would be a FREEDOM from having to worry about the almost-unavoidable problem of getting sick or injured... and facing BANKRUPTCY because of it. Or DYING because you didn't HAVE IT.

I wouldn't call it the ultimate Equality. I Would call it the great Equaliser, but that is not the same thing.

Are you sure? Could there be any freedom greater than that of a conciousness freed from its mortal bonds?
