Thread: MPC 1969 Mustang Mach 1 - Wimbeldon White - Finished! - Scale Auto Community

Started 11 months ago by RandyB.
I thought I would post my next build as a WIP as well. I have slowly been working on this one in the background while doing the Super Bee build. This is the old MPC tooling of the 1969 Mustang Mach 1. I realize that this kit is going to present me with a real challenge. I had built this kit a number of years ago and I can clearly remember the issues I had with it. Having said that. I have ...

I painted the body a week or so ago in frigid temperatures as I did with the Super Bee. I had to fill in two deep sink holes on the top of both fenders close to the front of the car. I rubbed the paint out with Nu Finish Scratch Doctor yesterday. Sink holes filled in on top fenders close to front with Tamiya putty.

Looking good..I've built a few of that kit over the years, incl. that same issue in Wimbeldon White, like my 1:1 Sportsroof. The MPC '69 has some issues--seems underscale (about 1:26th or so), missing the quarter windows, C-pillar emblems, poor interior door panel details, and a poor 351 representation (looks like an underscale 289). The Revell '69 is nice overall, but they botched the ...

A challenge you want, a challenge you get! I'll be watching this build Randy as I know you'll overcome the problems in your usual style!

Love them Mustangs and 69 is my favorite year. I'll be whatching this one.

Well it has been quite some time since I posted anything on this build but now that my '70 Super Bee is completed I can get some work going on this Mustang. I think this is going to present me with more of a challenge than I first expected. The door panels inside the interior look more like a '67 to '68 Mustang. I guess I'll just have to build it that way since I don't have the correct interior ...

This is looking good, Randy! I think I'll sent all my model bodies to you for BMFing! You do a fantastic job on it!

RandyB. replied 10 months, 2 weeks ago
Thanks Mike. BMF'ing is not really my favourite part of the build either.....but has to be done I guess.

Hadda dig up this thread, 'cause I just bought the Resto-Mod version of this kit yesterday. I'd never seen any version of it before. Wow, you did a really nice job with it! I don't think I've got the patience to convert it to accurate stock, so I'm thinking of building it as a mild custom. Never particularly cared for the quad headlights on '69s anyway. The Resto-Mod issue is almost worth the price in parts...

Sharp build. I've built a few of those, and it's a difficult kit to get to look nice.

I love it when someone takes a less than perfect kit and shows what can be done with it! Great job Randy, you can be proud of this one!
