Thread: MMR vaccine for Mom after delivery

Started 1 month, 4 weeks ago by VABSS
So I was told in the beginning of my pregnancy that my bloodwork showed my immunity to Rubella (German Measles) had apparently worn off even though I was vaccinated as a child, and that I would need to get vaccinated again after I gave birth. Since that time is getting closer, I started researching the topic a little, and I am little leary on some of what I am reading to say the least. I ...

Thanks for sharing your experience! It's good to hear a positive outcome after some of the scary internet stuff I was reading. Somtimes Google can be a bad thing. I did just find something interesting though. Apparently even if a woman tests "non-immune" but has 2 documented doses of recieving the MMR vaccine as a child (after age 1, has to be a live virus, etc) the CDC considers them immune,...

The same thing happened to me when I had dd #2. Did they give you the MMR vaccine before you were released from the hospital? Yes, they gave it to me the day before I left. What symptoms, if any did you have after the vaccine? I No symptoms, it just burned like hell. f you were breastfeeding, did it effect the baby at all (that you noticed)? I fed breastmilk and I didn't notice...

Reading online about MMR is never a good thing lol Lots of conspiracy theories and such. I would think you'll be ok breastfeeding because babies get the MMR vaccine and are generally fine. GL!

My suggestion if you are not feeling comfortable with getting the MMR right after birth, is to tell the hospital that you would like to wait to get it from your primary care doctor.. That way you can choose whether you get it sooner, or wait until you are finished BFing. The same thing happened to me when I had my DS. I just said I would see my family doctor for it, and they left me alone. I ...

I believe the reason some of us in our 30's are showing up without immunity to MMR was because of a bad batch of MMR vaccine given in the early to mid 1980's. Apparently, the batch of vaccine did not have enough dead virus in order to cause the needed immune response, but they weren't aware of this until the early to mid 1990's, so those of us who got the bad doses had insufficient immunity. I ...

I tested immune for it with dd #1 though.  I can't remember what my ob told me as to why that happened, but it made sense at the time - lol! As far as not getting the booster because you are breastfeeding....they wouldn't give it or offer it if they thought there would be any serios health risks to the baby.

If that child is now older and has been fully immunized and gotten their MMR vaccine, did they have any reactions to it? I'm only answering this question, because the others aren't as important in my case. With my first child, I got an MMR while I was breastfeeding (6 weeks postpartum). When he got his MMR at 18 months, he lost his speech. Gone.... he still has some behavioral stuff ...

VABSS......  where did you find your info about not needing the vax again if you had 2 when younger?  I too have lost my immunity to Rubella and was told they would give me another vax after delivery.  I've been researching alot about vaccinations for my baby buy sort of forgot they were gonna give me another one.

prayn4baby08: I found several different websites that mentioned the protocol for vaccinating people that are shown to be not immune, and a couple different ones mentioned that if the people have documentation showing they recieved 2 doses it is not routinely recommended to give them a 3rd dose. I'll just post one link here: http://www.immunize.org/askexperts/experts_mmr.asp This link ...
