Thread: Lymes Treatment question.....

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by dzyg
Our Ginger (6yr old Cocker) has just finished up her medication for the treatment of Lymes. Was on Rimadyl for 4 days and Doxycyclene for 30 days. She took the last pills on Wednesday. Yesterday (Thursday) evening I noticed she was hesitant to jump up on the couch and again later was hesitant to jump on the bed. She did make it both times but not as easily as she should have. This morning she ...

The latest research on Lyme is that 30 days should be sufficient for treating it. It is possible that she also has some arthritis that can be associated with lyme - is she on any supplements such as glucosamine/chondroiten? You can also try a little aspirin (no advil or tylenol), one adult tablet per 50 lb. If she seems really stiff, you should consult with your vet and possibly get ...

I did end up calling the vet and she is putting her on Rimadyl. I questioned if maybe she should have antibiotics a little longer, I wasn't talking to the vet though and tech calling back just said the vet wanted her on Rimadyl. I had done some research and found a couple sites that said it may take longer than 30 days and I guess if this is the case with Ginger putting her on Rimadyl will just...

Anytime a human or animal gets exposed to a disease such as Lyme, anaplasma, ehrlichia or any other tick borne infection, it opens them up for arthritis in all joints but mostly hits the joints that get the most impact such as the knees, hips and shoulders. I know this first hand - I've had lyme twice and I have pretty bad arthritis in my knees and also in my fingers. The Rimadyl should help ...

Thanks Cat. One more question will the glucosamine help with the pain also? The Rimadyl is helping but not completely, she is still having some pain and having problems walking up steps and jumping up onto things. Is glucosamine generally taken in combination with Rimadyl or on its own? How costly is the glucosamine? The Rimadyl was pretty expensive for the two week supply I got. Thanks so much...

No, glucosamine will not help with pain. If the Rimadyl is not working that well, you may want to ask your vet to switch to another pain reliever or possibly adding another one such as Tramadol or Gabapentin on top of the Rimadyl. At this point if she is still uncomfortable, aspirin will most likely not even touch the pain. We use Arthri-ease Gold by Vet Classics which is fairly ...

I dont want to AT ALL scare you, but just to give you a heads up.  From learning so much about Lymphoma, I have found a decent amount of dogs Ive come across in on line groups, seem to have had a tick borne illness (Lyme, Anaplasmosis) a few months prior to their owners noticing swollen lymph glands (under their neck most noticeably) which was the 1st sign of Lymphoma. I did hear someone was ...
