The two Canons you mentioned are kind of large and heavy, especially the SX20is. They are good all around ultrazooms, though.
Other possibilities you may wish to consider are the Panasonic ZS3 and FZ35, the Olympus SP590UZ and the Sony DSC H20.

I'm a busy mom with 3 kids and don't want to haul around a video camera and still camera to all my kids functions. I could use some help deciding what's best. Thanks.
