Budget * What budget have you allocated for buying this camera? Please be as specific as possible. Under 500 Size * What size camera are you looking for? Or does size not matter at all to you? Smaller the better, but it doesn't matter much. Quality is much more important. Features How many megapixels will suffice for you? 8+ * What optical zoom will ...

The best small ultrazoom camera is probably the Panasonic ZS3 (also known as the TZ7). Here's the link to DCR's review. http://www.digitalcamerareview.com/d...onic+lumix+ zs3 Other good small long zoom cameras are the Panasonic ZS1 (AKA the TZ6), the Canon SX200is, the Sony DSC H20 and the Samsung HZ10w (AKA the WB500). If you're willing to explore larger long zoom cameras, there...

I just finished the review for this site of the Canon SD970 IS - it will probably be up later in the week, but if you can get by with a 5X zoom this is a terrific camera with a good macro capability (.8 inch focus distance for macro). The wide angle end of the zoom is 37mm, which is not that wide, but the telephoto end is at 185mm and it's a 12.1 MP sensor which allows for some fairly ...

Thanks so much for the replies. Those larger cameras are better I think. I have no problem with that size. J Keenan, do you have any examples of a macro image shot by the SD970 IS? Thanks again!

Alright, I'm pretty confident about getting the Panasonic FZ28. If anyone else would like to recommend a camera, please do. I have a few more questions about the FZ28. 1. Can it take nice macro shots? 2. Is there any advantage to getting the grey model? the black model? 3. Are there any cases that go well with the FZ28? Thanks, nelag

I just bought the FZ28 - it's a great camera. 1. It takes macros down to 1 cm - excellent macro ability. 2. I bought the black model. I think it looks more like a DSLR than the silver one. 3. I bought mine at Costco and it came with a case made by Panasonic.

Great. Thanks for answering the questions. How much did it cost at costco? It's about 300 on Amazon.

Andy Stanton replied 7 months ago
I paid $279. It came with a nice Panasonic case and a 1gb memory card, which is too small. I'm going to pick up a 4 or 8gb SDHC card soon.

I just went to my nearby costco and they didn't have it. :/ I'll be ordering viz Amazon

I just found this forum and this thread is precisely apropos to what I have been trying to research today (most of the day), and I feel I am no nearer than I was when I started! So instead of reading reviews, from which one cannot ask questions, I figured maybe I should go to "real people" from whom I can ask questions! and besides, real people have real opinions and experience. OK, that ...

Breck, The Panasonic FZ35 is not exceptional in any one area but it's very good in all areas. I think that's why so many people are happy with it - there's really nothing to complain about.

Well Andy, Actually I went farther back in our exchanges. I took a hard look at the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35, the successor to your slightly older model FZ28. It does have a viewfinder if I am not mistaken. And is not too far out of my price range. And does get excellent reviews too. Plus the other things as well (lens cover method, width of lens, aperture). I just had to get used to buying a camera from, of all sources, Panasonic! Not what I...
