While I was at the doctor on the 7th he said he was prescribing me lisinopril too. I looked at him kind of puzzled and said I have high blood pressure too. He said no, I'm putting you on this because it also prevents kidney damage. I had no idea. Every doctor I had before this one never said or tried to do anything to help. I think things are looking up for me now. But Lisinopril..a ...
Well I'm going based on what my Endo told me and what I have googled about it. Every where I read it says it prevents it, and if there is already damage it prevents any further damage.

It's an ace inhibitor.. ace inhibitors prevent kidney damage. Most up to date endo 's will advise patients to start on one 10 years after Dx ... even if you aren't showing any signs of high BP or kidney damage.
lisinopril is often prescribed to counter act damage statins can cause to the kidneys. it's the new way of medicine is to prescribe cocktails of drugs.

When my Dr was prescribing my initial medications he prescribed Lisinopril also to help prevent any kidney damage that might occur. My kidneys are working just fine but he did it as a precaution. I take a very small dose, but I do take it every day.

This is not a new drug and yet, people are still in kidney failure. What does this tell you? If you think it might possibly not be a simple A + B = C equation, you win the prize. Agreed....

im still up in the air personally about it.i have stopped taking it because of another"side effect" and am still comparing.but i doubt i will go back on it talk to your doc.
Sportsrep,Deanusa,HarleyGuy Thanks a lot for your replies. I remember watching a news piece about simvastatin. It was promoted as a risk free stuff for anyone over the age of 40 to be used as a por-active treatment. Until I started feeling less and less strength specially in my leg muscels, I thounght I can take it for life. I'm glad to find people in here willing to help others. Only if I had known about DD a little earlier, I would...
I do believe that my endo is prescribing this to me because as of right now I have no problems and he wants to make sure it continues that way. Our bodies don't work the same and what may work for me, may not work for you. I'll take my doctors advice. And I think it'll work because I do have my blood sugars in check.
John, I had the same problem with lisinopril, and to make matters worse the dizziness felt disconcertingly similar to a hypo. However, the doc switched me to enalapril and I’ve had no trouble with that at all. I think with all these ACE inhibitors (and statins and other meds), it’s always worth asking to try a different one if the first one prescribed doesn’t agree with you.

I'm not a muscly guy naturally, but my energy level is dropping for quite sometime. And the only thing I can put my finger on, except my BG level...
I don't have Hi bp either but was put on 20 mg lisinopril. My bp is so low I'm not able to function.. that's a serious side effect in my book.. I'm hoping my new doctor makes some much needed changes.. AND SOON..
I truly love being a member of this website / think-tank. The information and friendship I've found here has been worth a pot of Gold. My doctor recently put me on Lisinopril even though I'm on Diovan and even though my BP rating is well within the normal range. Ever since being diagnosed as a Type 2, I've had protein-leakage issues which, is why the doctor put me on the Diovan. So, the leakage issue is nothing new. However,...
My doctor prescribed me 10 mg Lisinopril daily. That made me so dizzy I thought I was going to faint every time I stood up, so she told me to cut it in half, which is what I'm doing now, but the other side effect I'm having from the Lisinopril is nausea. Constant nausea. I was just at the dr's this morning and she's switching me to Altace to see if that helps with the nausea. But she insists I need something like this, for...
