Thread: Lightroom crashes after some hours of work
Started 2 months, 1 week ago by ILikePhotographs
Hi, has anyone of you the same problem or any idea how to solve this? I have tried Lightroom 2.4 on a labtop with 2 GB RAM, Win XP, dual core processor. Typically, I was able to work for some hours, but then something strange happened. Effect a) : The picture I am working on suddenly receives a modification that I did not command, like for instance a convertion to brownish colors or to ...
What sort of work are you doing? Using the brush? With only (!) two Gigs RAM, you may be pressing things. Do you quit other apps while working in LR? I'd also try deleting and resetting Preferences.... How to locate Preferences files in LR
I am using almost all options that Lightroom offers, including brush, repair and grad tool, but it looks like the crashes do not depend on using the brush. They also happen if I just use "normal" features like brightness, contrast, sharpening etc. As my labtop supports a maximum of 2 GB RAM I have no other choice. There are no other memory consuming applications open. What I see in task ...
Perhaps updating to 2.5 would help, as would a new Prefs file. Quitting and restarting LR before it hangs may help, as would minimizing brush and local adjustments... Not solutions so much as workarounds other than adding more RAM.
Of course, quitting before it hangs is really no solution as Lightroom does not announce that it plans to crash in a minute.. Minimizing the use of local enhancements is also no solution - then I wouldn't need Lightroom anymore. And more RAM is no option either due to system restrictions - but I have friends working with Photoshop in really big projects with many layers, who have 2 GB of RAM ...
Updating to 2.5, afaik, doesn't contain any specific fixes for this, but in the rare event that your application is corrupt, updating will fix that. There are hundreds of possible setttings in Preferences, but the default ones are fine, and when I do it, it takes about two minutes to go through them and reset. It will remove reference to existing catalogs. You can also rename the ...
Unfortunately, neither the update to LR 2.5, nor deleting the preferences file did help. The crashes appear as before. The more I work with RAW files or TIFFs, the faster it happens. The "preset" that is obviously applied to the picture I work with at the moment the problem occurs seem to be completely randomly selected (those are even presets that I have never used before!). After a re-start I...
Well, one week without any further response, is there nobody elso who has an idea ? I thought Adobe developer check this forum also? With these irregular and frequent crashes Lightroom is no acceptable solution for me, so I think I will try out ACDSee Pro 3 next which is even able to perform lens and perspective corrections in the way I wish Lightroom would be able to. I am just tired of all ...
Just a thought here. You say that Lightroom crashes after some hours of working? Correct? It works for hours? And you are using a laptop? Could it be that your laptop is getting to warm? Maybe try a laptop cooler and see if that helps.
No, that is definitely not the case. I can work all day without any problems when using other software (even very calculation and graphics intensive programs) without any problems. The labtop is on power (battery taken off), and the time when the crashes occur depends only on the work in Lightroom, i.e. how much I have modified large (.rw2, .tif or big .jpg) pictures. Especially when using ...
have the same problem LR2.5 - work on PC crashes only when I export files (2-3) and work with other picture 3 GB of RAM + increase mem for LR in LR preferences
