Thread: Lighten throttle pull...

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by Mr Sunshine
So one thing I want to do is to lighten my throttle pull as much as possible yet still retain a safe throttle setup. I run an aftermarket throttle hosing and tube ( http://www.yoyodyneti.com/ProductInf...oductid=E80 061 ) on my SV650 Superbike. I've been running the silver cam (the middle one) but I'm switching to the black cam (the least aggressive one) to see if this helps. I know I need...

Cutting the springs makes them stiffer.

Cut almost half of one turn off the spring and re-hook it and let it relax to the stop, less one turn. Relaxing the spring one entire turn makes it too weak. If you go a little too weak, it's easy to just cut the hook off and re-hook it to stiffen it back up a tad. I've already done this on a set of 52mm TB's on a K3 SV1K.

I still though if you remove some of the spring it'll get stiffer.

All of this about spring physics is wonderful and all, but the return spring on an SV isn't a push/pull spring, it's rotational. Use a spacer on what? It isn't being compressed. Since a picture is worth a thousand words..... There are 12 winds on the spring. There is also more than one revolution of preload. The way it comes is too strong. If you unhook the outside end of the spring, and relax it one full revolution, it...

Isn't it just the increased radius (profile)of the quick turn throttle cam the culprit for the stiffer feel? Didnt think those little springs could be such a monster to wrestle around...
