Thread: Let's try again; Your Nominees: Best Adapted Screenplay 2008

was prompted to create this thread after browsing through the 2008 Personal Ballot thread and being mortified at the mentions in the Best Adapted Screenplay category. Now this category is weak, to be sure. Unlike Original Screenplay from this year (where there are at least a dozen rock-solid contenders,) there are NOT a plethora of brilliantly adapted screenplays. But I was disturbed to find that the five films that received the most mentions...

That ONE scene is really the films only sour moment...aside from that it is pretty damn good...I've read the novel and felt that it really delivered on all fronts except that ONE really, really bad one

Revolutionary Road is a wonderful novel, but the screenplay is dreadful and reduces every angst that Yates so meticiously described into soap operaish gimmicks. "Mental illness!" "Anger!" "Infidelity!" "Abortions!" "Death!"

Ugh, yes. RR the novel is such lovely work. That whole dinner table scene was such a train wreck... from all involved. Acting, writing, directing...
